3.5 star ratingClean, reasonable locationConfusion regarding breakfast pricing. Too much bread (very wasteful) - whole basket filled to the brim. I would rather pay a bit more for a decent breakfast - a single crousant, slice of toast, 2 slices of cheese, 2 slices of meat and a single fruit would probably cost the same as the basket of bread!//20 August 2008
3.0 star ratingMy room (222) was by the kitchen chimney and it smelled frying oil when I arrived. I had to keep the window shut all day long and could only open it after midnight because of the smell. I also had to shut it back at 6 am when they started preparing breakfast. Also, very old hotel could really use some renovation. The floor would creek when we (or the neighbors) walked, the shower was all rusted and the cupboard was so unstable we were afraid it would fall on us overnight at any time.If you get to the hotel at night and there's nobody at front desk, go look for them at the hotel bar... that's where I found them when I got to the hotel around 11:30 pm even though the hotel door was open.26 August 2008
3.0 star ratingbudget hotel, basic but good location.25 August 2008
2.0 star ratingBed good, TV OK...... but very old fashioned: shower out of date, no real hot water, breakfast amazingly poor (continental in a you will not get it anymore at the continent).30 August 2008
3.5 star ratingThe staff were courteous, eficient and helpful. The room was adequate. The continental breakfast was ample and the choice of breads etc excellent. For the price it is really excellent value especially in a capital cityThe room was superficially clean but could have done with a good clean and redecoration. The only thing that really bothered me was the filthy plughole in the basin which had a lot of gunge caught in it.30 August 2008
3.0 star ratingAll generally fine, found it quite amuzing that the cleaner was eating her sandwich on a table next to us during breakfast!!. Not a snob but unusual. Could do with a lick of paint but for the price and location it was fine. Thank you.26 September 2008
5.0 star ratingWe very much enjoyed our stay at the Columbia. I would recommend it to any one visiting London. It is very handy for all the sights and being by Hyde Park was a real bonus.23 September 2008
4.0 star ratingFriendly welcoming and helpful staff.30 September 2008
4.5 star rating We found the hotel very nice. Very good location, nice roomy spaces in lobby and restaurant, beautiful staircase, cosy and wellfurnished room and very clean. The reception was very helpful in changing us from a twinbedroom to a doubleroom and also in giving information on train services etc. We find it quite allright to just have a spartan breakfast included in the room price, especially when it is possible to choose many supplements from the menu. However we found the quality of the bread apalling and likewise the choice between marmelade, marmelade and marmelade. Why not a cheese option? The staff in the restaurant was not very attentive and certainly not smiling!03 October 2008
3.0 star ratingNo hot water, there was seemimgly a problem with a new water system that had recently been installed which resulted in only tepid water being available04 October 2008
3.5 star ratingIt's central, easy to find. The twin room was good value for money. Shame that there was only occcasional hot water. Fortunately I was only staying for 1-night, I would not have liked to stay longer with minimal hot water. The breakfast staff could have been more prompt and also more friendly. 27 October 2008
4.5 star ratingIt was a great value for the price! It was clean and had English charm. I would absolutely stay there again!02 November 2008
3.5 star ratingGreat relation price- quality. You need to take care of the hot water...Its hard to have a mix of water, or it will be really hot or really cold. And the staff of the breakfast are really rude.03 November 2008
4.5 star ratingFriendly staff, nice breakfast, good locationWere having hot water problems, showers were a bit cool.27 October 2008
3.5 star ratingGood location, pleasant and helpful staff.General decor of hotel out-dated, limited choice of food in continental breakfast.07 November 2008
4.5 star ratingperfect location, lovely old original features, very grand exterior, extremely clean, staff friendly and we encountered no problems during our short stay.yes the interior did need updating especially the bathrooms but this could be done in the original style of the building. rooms near the main road were noisy early morning due to traffic.(double glazing needed)07 November 2008
3.5 star ratingStaff pleasant and helpful. Room was clean and comfortable although it was too hot. Opening window helped. Will return when I am in London again08 November 2008
4.0 star ratingI was very pleased with the accommodation and locationI prepaid the extra 6 pound sterling for the English breakfast only to find that there were several lower cost options on the menu. Over the three days I selected items that amounted to less than 18 pounds s. 14 November 2008

5.0 star ratingI love this hotel, i use it at least 2-3 times a year, good value and friendly staff, and is located in such a covenient place for travelling all over London, and Hyde Park right over the road makes it a winner with me.19 November 2008
3.5 star ratingA very good location nr Hyde park Price is good for London Clean hotel Friendly staffOld fashioned decor 21 November 2008
4.0 star ratingBy London standards excellent value for money, with a breakfast cooked to order.Limited stock at the bar (I would have liked a J2O, but there weren't any). If there was a machine for dispensing cans of soft drinks I didn't find it.14 December 2008
3.5 star ratingVery retro decoration. Clean and very good price. The reception stuff could have been a bit more polite.20 March 2009
3.0 star ratingGood value for moneyAppalling attitude / service from the check-in receptionist, by far the worst hotel employee I have ever come across. However the rest of the staff encountered during the stay were both professional and friendly. 16 December 2008
5.0 star ratingnice service and good location, the best view over hyde park!14 January 2009
4.0 star ratingFor London this is a bit of a bargain and I stay regularly. Needs refurbishment, but good location, clean and most rooms quite spacious for London. Flat screen TVs throughout, hairdryers, tea and coffee etc. Soft drinks available from vending machine at reasonable price.Rooms that overlook the park also overlook Bayswater Road and get traffic noise.12 January 2009
3.5 star ratingReception staff extremely helpful and friendly, quick check-in and check-out. Very good location! Room was comfortable enough, and very spacious.Quite oldfashined outside the reception area.07 January 2009
4.0 star ratingGeneral facilities were of high standard, giving a nice feel to the hotel. Being able to make your own tea in your room was to my liking. The service was good concerning need for an electric adapter, leaving luggage at hotel after checking out and using the hotels wireless internet. The contrast between for example the splendour of the lobby compared to the room was noticeable, but mostly only to detail. The fixed shower was uncomfortably low.08 February 2009
4.5 star ratingNice loaction, exellent ratio quality/service/location.Nice and clean though is with old furniture.27 February 2009
4.5 star ratingGreat stately old place that might have seen better years, but for that reason it's wonderful. High ceilings, long, narrow carpeted hallways, great staircase...good value and well situated.tomillo19 February 2009

4.0 star ratingWe changed room without question Staff repaired Wifi at once very well available on internet First we surprizeingly have got a smoking room in the 4th floor which was very smelly Next day we changed and got 207. 207 is worse then a miracle house. The floor so noisy in the room and in front of the room aswell that even a fly make it hearable The walls between the rooms very very week 20728 February 2009
5.0 star ratingWe have stayed in your hotel at least 5 times on pleasure trips to London, we have always found it an absolute pleasure to stay, you are fantastically situated right across the road from Hyde Park and very close to Tube station, staff are very friendly and helpful, clean airy rooms, we feel like we are staying home from home, i would recommend you to anyone that i know. I look forward to my next visit28 February 2009
4.0 star ratingWe loved the Columbia. We booked a double room for three nights and a triple room for one night, and were given a room with three single beds for the four nights. It was a spacious room. Very clean and comfortable beds. We had tea-making facilities and even biscuits provided in the room. The bathroom was a bit dated, with avocado bathroom suite and green tiles, but spotlessly clean and the shower had good power. We loved the old-fashioned feel of the hotel - lovely staircase with shiny brass banisters. There was a large lounge with sofas, large dining room and a bar. For the price we paid, the Columbia was wonderful value. Only a couple of minutes walk from Lancaster Gate tube station and Hyde Park just across the road. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful too. Would highly recommend the hotel. Can't think of anything.Three Ladies02 March 2009

4.0 star ratingRequested was early check in and room with a view - both were granted. Friendly staff at time of check in - especially after a long haul flight. Hotel was warm Beds were comfortableCouple of phone messages were not passed on.09 March 2009
4.5 star ratingSuited our purpose very well and the staff were extremely friendy and, in fact, helpful in giving us information re trains and locations. We were literally at the hotel for a matter of hours as we had arranged to meet friends and attend a show during our one evening stay and what we saw of the hotel and experienced at breakfast time was very favourable. We would use the hotel again and recommend to our friends for similar stays. Good central location16 March 2009

4.5 star ratingI was with my 7 year old son & all staff were very friendly. Hotel is 2** so you get what you'd expect - room a little dated but clean & comdortable & the locatino was perfect for us. Would definitely use again.AliWali6624 April 2009
4.5 star ratingstayed for one night. very helpful and friendly. arrived early, room was ready at 11am! able to leave luggage until we caught bus home, a bonus. had very enjoyable stay. friendly barman, we are very likely to stay here again when we come to London next year. not so keen on the continental breakfast. just various bread ams jams. next time will pay extra for full english. 25 April 2009
4.5 star ratingValue for moneyIn need of some tender loving care but the bedroom was comfortable with tea, coffee and biscuits provided which a lot of the bigger names do not! Centrally located19 May 2009

4.5 star ratingGreat location, very clean rooms, great staff, very helpful and quick to assistOn the 4th floor water supply is very weak in the mornings, we had problems having a shower. And some additions to continental breakfast (at least cheese) would be nice17 November 2009
5.0 star ratingI have stayed in this hotel at least 6 times now, i have always found it very friendly and helpful, and great value for money and is situated perfectly for central London whether on business or just a pleasure visit. Will definately be visiting again in the very near future.Karen Lindsay24 November 2009

4.0 star ratingGreat location and staffThe rooms definitely need renovation, carpets and matresses are worn off. In my room the shower head was broken. The breakfast is served fast but rather scarce.12 March 2010
3.5 star ratingVery close to Hyde Park and the Lancaster Gate tube station. Breakfast was nice. Staff were friendly and knowledgable. Free parking at the side of the hotel for guests (12 or 14 spaces only)No air conditioning in rooms, so the room got a bit stifling. Floorboards creaked so you couldhear people moving about. Could also hear anything happening in the corridor. In congestion charge zone.15 July 2010
4.0 star ratingThe hotel was nicer than we expected from the photographs, very clean with large rooms. Perfect location for visiting Hyde Park for the festival.29 June 2010

4.5 star ratingGreat location, very good price. Public rooms spacious, welcoming, comfortable. Breakfast very good.Plumbing needs to be modernised. In a twin room, one of the beds was very squeaky. Front desk friendly and capable, but undermanned.GJP26 September 2010
4.5 star ratingHardly any other place is so central and even when they are; they charge you 3 or 4 times as much. If you are not a snob and can overlook 70s style bathrooms, it is a fantastic place to stay in. staff were friendly and respectful (perhaps as they were all foreigners!). Highly recommended. The building is slightly tired.M Roy26 October 2010
4.0 star ratingSpacious, tall rooms in gracious, centrally located victorian property. Excellent value. Would certainly make a return visit.Toilet was bit smelly...but manager immediately offered us a choice of alternative rooms. Good service.Ben13 January 2011
2.0 star ratingThe staff was helpful and friendly. The elevator didn't work which caused quite some inconvenience. The breakfast was inedible, I could not find a trace of the food's origin i.e. the croissant was nothing like a croissant, the tea did not taste like tea and the orange juice had no resemblance of orange and the butter and jam (the only option on what to have on the bread) seemed artificial. The room was a smoking room which I had not been informed of upon my booking, so it was smelly and had bad air- which in turn made all my clothes smell. The room was also very outdated as the rest of the hotel, and I am just very glad there wasn't a fire during our stay as it almost required a compass to find one's in all the corridors of the hotel.Ingrid12 April 2011
5.0 star ratingI was really surprised by quality of the English Breakfast. It is really tasty and sufficient, I concider it one of the best in London. Nothing really. May be, beds and matresses need some renovation.18 April 2011
2.5 star ratingLocalizaçãoCasa de banho em péssimas condições. O autoclismo não funcionava.02 October 2011
3.5 star ratingRoom was bigger than expected Would of prefered a buffet style breakfast as both my partner and i both asked for things to be left off (tomato, fried bread etc) and the meal still came with those items. which is a waste.23 September 2011
3.5 star ratingThe hotel is on a nice spot in London. The room is small but not too small. The room is clean.Only one towel per person is provided.11 October 2011
5.0 star ratingWe have stayed at the Columbia many times now, either overnight or for weekends at a time, we love it, it is very relaxed and great value for money and is in a lovely location being right across the road from Hyde Park and a few minutes walk to the tube station for visiting the rest of London, we will definately be staying again.Kaz22 November 2011
4.5 star ratingMy room at the Columbia was very comfortable. It was clean and the bed was well made and warm. The hotel staff were very friendly. I was greeted very well on my arrival. I had also forgotten something, but the person on duty at the reception desk was very helpful and it was sorted very quickly. Breakfast was good. I opted for the included continental breakfast, which was basic. However, there was a good selection of toast as well as a crossoint and olive bread. I had orange juice and several cups of tea. Well worth choosing this option, especially if on a budget. They had lots of other options for breakfasts and it all looked very nice. Staff were also very flexible with the menu, as I could see and hear them providing specific requests for other guests. The only two negative things I would say about the Hotel: The radiator in my room didn't work, but the one in the bathroom did, so I left the door to the bathroom open. It wasn't very cold, so fine. The hot water system is not very good. The pressure is very low and when lots of people are having a shower, no hot water comes out of the tap at all. I don't know whether the fact, that I was on the 4th floor made a difference. It shouldn't really. Luckily I had a shower the night before, after 11.00pm, even then it was coming through very slowly. The shower didn't work at all. Before 11.00pm there was no water for some of the time. In the morning, there was no hot water at all until Ieft the room at 8.45am to go down for breakfast. I had to boil water in the kettle to wash my face. On my return after breakfast, there was hot water again. I can only assume that most people had a shower by now. All in all, I had a wonderful night's sleep, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and warm. The location was perfect and it was within my budget. It is an old Hotel, which does require some updating and I did notice some scaffolding outside, so maybe it has started.Blossom12 November 2011
4.5 star ratingThe staff were most helpful from checking in, throughout our stay to checking out, however, the standard of service by the staff at breakfast was second to none and I would be obliged if you would pass on our thanks to those who served my wife an I.None14 November 2011

GastDE29 May 2012
3.0 star ratingClean room and situated right next to Hyde Park which was great for us accessing the wireless festival. The free continental breakfast was in fact just a basket of bread - if you wanted anything else i.e cereals you had to pay. Also the previous guest had set the TV alarm to come on @ 6.45am which woke me up which was really annoying, I know this was out of the staff's control but when I mentioned it on checkout they weren't very apologetic and didn't even seem to note the room number to get it taken offdee10 July 2012

But I know that we could order this. And there was a lot of noise in my room in the night. I think that it was a VAN in an other room.10 January 2013

4.0 star ratingGreat hotel - nice location by Kensington Gardens and close to Central Line Tube. Friendly staff, good breakfast, room basic but clean with a good shower. If you want good value and a change from the faceless boxes of the big chains and don't mind a bit of faded decor, then this one is for you.None.Dave 28 January 2013
3.5 star ratingVery clean, and very quiet. Perfect location, 2 minutes from Lancaster Gate Tube and 9 minutes from Paddington. Nice view to Kensington Gardens. The room was small, they provided only 2 towels and when I asked for some more I was told to go down the reception to get some. The contintental breakfast was almost poor, it only had toast, croissant, jam and some cereal. The bed was very small.chrysso07 March 2013
3.5 star ratingThe location was great, the hotel building has a lot of character and is very beautiful. The room was big and spacious. The staff at the breakfast room was really friendly and nice, really good start for a day. The hotel staff at the reception was not so helpful that I´m used to while travelling. They said they do not have a proper internet connection at their use, only smart phones, so they could not help us with finding/booking the next hotel. Luna28 February 2013
2.5 star ratingposition of hotel good, links with transport system good. some room sizes good, some staff very helpful, nice hotel for position and acceptable quality. 4.5 star ratingThe situation of the hotel is superb! It is close enough to walk to Oxford street for shopping, has numerous restaurants close by and Kensington Gardens and Hyde park are next door. You can even hire bicycles very close to the hotel for a round in the parks. The staff were very nice, offering a fine mixture of relaxed friendlyness and professionalism, giving our two young sons a special breakfast treat: cocoa served at the table, every morning! We had booked the English breakfast menu, and it was delicious and varied. The atmosphere in the hotel is charming and the price is very nice for a family on a medium budget. I would love to come back and will happily recommend the hotel to anyone I talk to who wants to go to London! Nothing, really, given that the price is so good! Yes, the family room we stayed in was not exactly luxurious, and one of the closets looked about to collapse, but the beds are good, it is clean and there is plenty of space. 4.0 star ratingWe were pleasantly surprised by this hotel! Very spacious, and a great location - walking distance to Paddington and to Notting Hill. We'd read reviews that suggested requesting a room with a view of the park and on one of the higher floors (to avoid the road noise), and we were granted our request so were very impressed with that. Breakfast was also very pleasant. Good selection with a continental breakfast as well as the English breakfast we had included. People walking outside our bedroom in the morning woke me up due to the creaky floors, but the age and character of the hotel was quite nice, so we didn't mind the tradeoff.28 July 2013
5.0 star ratingGood value for money. Room was clean and spotless and functional. Great location by hyde park and bus stop right by the hotel. Staff very friendly and helpful. Outside front grounds very pleasent and great parking available. mikey06 August 2013
4.0 star ratingThe hotel staff, both at reception and in the restaurant were very professional and accommodating. I would however recommend this hotel to fellow travellers looking for accommodation central London.Sorry cannot remember the room number, but it was on the second floor at the end of a long hot stuffy corridor. The room would have been better served if a fan was supplied. I realise that this year summers was unseasonal, but with the long corridor and the required window restrictions, the lack of air circulation made the stay unbearable. 24 August 2013
3.0 star ratingThe hotel room was clean and the staff were accomodating. The rooms are dated (1970s-ish), and the wifi is restricted to the lobby (and you only get 8 hours of it); it was noisy in the middle of the night (around 02:30 there were doors slamming constantly for about 20 minutes above us) and there were no hand towels, only (rather small) bath towels. It was around the same price as other hotels located in the Bayswater area (i.e. expensive), but the money does not appear to have been re-invested.16 September 2013

2.5 star rating non English breakfast included ( 15,00 P. extra ) is not good because you have to make a choice from the menu for lat's say 4,00 P . The furniture in the room was completely worn-out , to little and to small .Roger04 November 2013

4.5 star ratingWe had a lovely stay at The Columbia hotel and the two male staff at reception on the evening we arrived (2nd Aug) were very polite and helpful and advised on places nearby to walk to not far from the hotel. The barman on the evening was also very nice and he helped to serve our breakfast table the next morning. We enjoyed our stay and if we returned to London for another visit we would consider going to the Colmubia again. We also got parking next to the hotel in one of the free spaces which was another bonus.Mr & Mrs Gilbraith05 August 2014

3.0 star ratingJättebra läge, underbart att ha parken så nära att ströva i. Vackra gamla rum. Vänlig personal. Mitt rum var litet, men tyst precis som jag bett om. Wi-fi på nedre våningen bara, men funkade bra. Usel frukost. Hade bokat English Breakfast i förväg. Margareta02 September 2014

4.0 star ratingI stayed at this hotel for 2 nights last week with family in a triple room. The only negative things I have to say about this hotel: 1) the room decor is a little dated (but the standard of cleanliness certainly made up for it!) 2) beds are not luxurious but certainly adequate. 3) the lift is a little slow (we were on the 4th floor) It was our first ever visit to London, we wanted a safe, CLEAN, place to stay with basic facilities, located centrally. This hotel is a five minute walk from Lancaster Gate, very central but quiet at night so there wasn't noise keeping us up, bathroom was the older three piece matching green suite but very clean and did the job. My brother stayed in the same room as my sister and I (I am a girl) so we wanted a decent bathroom where we could get changed/have some privacy. Bathroom was honestly about the same size as your bathroom at home probably. Breakfast was basic but decent. Free luggage storage before and after check in. Didn't have much interaction with staff because we had no issues so no reason to. But the odd question and they were definitely helpful. Genuinely can't complain. I would recommend this hotel in particular for families.Anonymous 03 November 2014
