4.0 star ratingVery clean. Breakfast very good, lots of choice. Staff at breakfast very efficient. We visited the restaurant twice and found it to be understaffed. The tables were dirty and so we moved on to somewhere else. The room we had was very noisy, lots of work being done outside the hotel. We felt that the comfort of the room could have been enhanced by air conditioning to save having the window open. Not all front of house staff made eye contact as people moved in and out, but, perhaps that is because they were busy, even though no-one was at the desk.15 September 2008
4.0 star ratingExcellent location. Comfortable room. Very good breakfastRoom quite small, but I suppose that's what you get in UK hotels25 December 2008
3.5 star ratingGood breakfast - but make sure this is included in the price of your room otherwise its far too expensive!Wi-fi is an extra charge, which is not acceptable given the price of the rooms and wide availability of this at competitors. This is not made clear on their website and on this point alone I would choose a different hotel for a business stay in future. Rooms are also quite noisy - despite being on the sixth floor a lot of noise comes up from the street below.02 February 2009
4.5 star ratingWet room (disabled room perhaps) not so good for us07 April 2009
4.0 star ratingVery good staff at check in desk and concierge - very helpful. We were given a different room because we could not open the window for fresh air in the room we were originally allocated. Very nicely handled by receptionist. The buffet breakfast was very poor quality. We think that maybe it was worse because there had been a large wedding party the previous evening and so perhaps we were in a different room. The food in the hot trays was very unappealing and poor quality, the toast was cold and had obviously been sitting around for a while. Our waiter however was very good and friendly. This was the only meal we had in the hotel so cannot comment on food in general.05 May 2009

4.0 star ratingperfect location absolute oasis during a hectic days shopping in town centre full scottish breakfast just what we needed to keep us going for the day ahead.probably shouldn't say this in this day and age but it would have been nice to have been greeted and served by scottish staff - surely that is what the hotel represents.27 August 2009

4.5 star ratingWas room only so can't comment on food. Got a fantastic deals and was very pleased. The location is great but I am not sure it's worth £200 per night which is what some people we met had paid.30 August 2011
4.0 star ratingtraditional atmosphere, very elegant. nice and comfortable roombut: to be in a -1 level room is quite a disappointing experience. we got lost many times. you must send a bell boy with your guests the first time. I WAS REALLY DISAPPOINTED THAT THE RECEPTIONIST WAS POLITE BUT NOT REALLY ASSISTING TO ME IN FINDING THE ROOM. FROM THE BEGINING SHE KNEW WHERE IT WAS, WHLE WE DIDN'T. IT AS IF SHE TREATED US AS SECOND BEST GUESTS. IT SPOILED THINGS A LITTLE BIT AND THE FEELING ABOUT YOUR HOTEL, THOUGH THE ROOM WAS VERY NICE.... BUT TO GET THERE... WAS A PUZZLE. IF I EVER COME BACK TO EDINBROUGH I WILL TRY TO GET YOUR HOTEL IN A GOOD PRICE BUT NEVER SETTLE FOR A -LEVEL ROOM. THAN I PREFER STH ELSE WILL BE BETTER.24 August 2011
4.5 star ratingNice hotel, ideal central position for sightseeing, restaurants, castle etc. Helpful concierge. Refurbished rooms were very comfortable. My parents were far too hot with the rather heavyweight duvet in their room and it took 3 phone calls to reception/housekeeping before they managed to supply a rather inadequately sized and grotty blanket to go on top of the empty duvet cover. Hot chocolate drinks ordered in the bar were not hot! However, neither of these niggles would put us off staying again.22 August 2011

4.0 star ratingWe arrived very early and the hotel put us in the room early. The room was very cold and did not heat up for a long time. Also the bed was two single beds stuck together and they had a dip in the middle which meant that you slid into the middle. This was the last bedroom at the end of the corridor, next to the Fire Escape, and had a view of the air conditioning unit and was not a recommendation to go back.10 April 2012
4.5 star ratingMy room was what i expect 4* accomm to be-quite plush and fairly high spec. The room seemed to have been recently refurbished?....Bed very comfortable with good quality linen. Breakfast was well presented with a variety of options-i like choice! All staff with one exception-please see below-were highly professional and courteous-even room maids who ALWAYS said good morning whenever they came into contact with a guest. My only disppointment was when i arrived for breakfast on the bank holiday Monday at 10am. and was told by the young lady at the seating desk that i "had JUST made it". When i arrived at the Hotel on Friday i was told that breakfast was served between 7.30-10.30am. Consequently i thought i was well in time Monday morning. I didn't know that the later time only applied at w/ends. I found her attitude a little petulent and pompous. Also her admonishment could be heard by other guests which i found embarassing. I realise Hotels have their meal schedules-however i don't appreciate being made to feel like a naughty child by a member of staff who is probably 25 years younger than me!Bigsteve0810 May 2012
3.0 star ratingThe hotel has been refurbished several years ago and looks well maintained. The receptionist who checked us in was clearly new as couldn't tell us where the car park was to park our car, we had to ask if she was free to check us in rather than her offering her help and she gave us the wrong room number. Due to the road closures in Edinburgh city centre, it would have been helpful if the porter had given us directions to the car park instead of us having to drive aimlessly for some time in rush hour traffic. For a 4 star hotel, the standard double room we had was very small and cramped. If the hotel serves breakfast until 10.30 then I expect to find hot food there when I arrive at the buffet at 10.00 instead of having to attract the attention of one of the staff then wait a further 5-10 minutes. All that was there was some overcooked scrambled eggs and bacon. For a 4 star hotel which has spent £20million on refurbishment, they are letting themselves down by not training their staff on how to provide 4 star service. 24 July 2012

5.0 star ratingThe only fault I can find was the lack of resident's bar to watch the end of the Super Bowl. Having said that, we didn't ask and I'm sure they would have organised something for us if we hadn't been better off going to bed anyway...!Anonymous 05 February 2014
