4.5 star ratingThe setting is stunning and the rooms very well appointed, balcony looking calton hill is extremely impressive, bed extremely comfortable as well. The door to balcony needed a member of staff to come and open it as handle stuck. Television was very confusing to work and also a little dated. The plastic covering on the cold tap had come off and exposed sharp plastic. All relatively minor quibblesasianmags16 January 2012

5.0 star ratingBeautiful hotel, lovely staff. Very relaxing stay, couldn't have asked for a better location too!Would have been nice to be informed about works going on in the hotel but the staff more than made up for it!Becca14 May 2013
4.5 star ratingWarm welcome from staff. Extremely comfortable bed. Great coffee machine in room.Although the price we paid for the room was good value, the breakfast was seriously over-priced, so we ate elsewhere. 30 May 2013
5.0 star ratingThe hotel is in a great location, the rooms are beautiful, the toiletries were divine. Your door man William is a real asset to this hotel with his warmth and knowledge of Edinburgh. He helped us to settle in very well and is a real character. We did not think the full Scottish breakfasts were great, not loving smoked meats and didnt feel on the first day at least we had value for money. the continental breakfast was lovely though with a great variety of choice. The only other negative was when using the shower in our room, the bathroom floor would become soaking wet despite the door to the shower enclosure being closed. Nell 12 August 2013
4.5 star ratingLoved the quiet atmosphere, a calm niche in the hubbub of busy, busy Edinburgh central and so well placed. Liked the guest corridor - likened it to being on a cruise ship - but so quiet. Room set up excellent and looks fabulous. Really enjoyed the snug bar and rooftop setting, so much so that we invited our friends to join us there before the Tattoo - they live in Edinburgh, and were well impressed. Staff very, very helpful. Most comfortable hotel bed ever slept in Food a bit basic, but not priced accordingly. That said we only had a snack and a full breakfast. Would have preferred a room with a real view and not just overlooking the garden from the side. I think most other rooms look over Carlton Hill/Observatory but sadly ours didn't as it was in a corner.30 August 2013
5.0 star ratingBeautiful hotel, stunning roof garden, cosy lounge, excellent customer service, delicious breakfast! Will definately be returning!A guest accidentally set off the emergency alarm at 7am, which was an unexpected wake-up call! Of course, this is of no fault of the hotel or its staff, although while trying to find an emergency exit, there was no staff around who could of helped us. We understand that there is very few staff on duty at this time, however it would have been reassuring to see a member of staff when we weren't sure what was happening! The alarm was quite scary with instantaneous images of the place burning down (which it didn't of course!) but apart from this, a very positive experience. 26 October 2013
Lovely hotel, really clean. Good location for shopping and some lovely places to eat close by. Garden is fab, so relaxing to sit out and view the scenery.Shame it doesn't have a pool/spa.Ann24 May 2014
5.0 star ratingThe room we were allocated was just amazing, the bed was massive and comfortable. The facilities in the room were fantastic especially the coffee machine, robes and slippers. The walk from reception to the room was long but not in a bad way, good bit of exercise and allowed me to find the lounge area and the honesty bar. Great touch in the room with the heated floor in the bathroom. The reception staff on check even showed us to our room and asked if we had been to edinburgh before and struck up a good rapport with us. The reception staff on check out were friendly, helpful and understanding of the wait we had in the breakfast area. View from the room not so great into offices. Waited just under 1 hour for cooked breakfast, had to extend check out time to wait until breakfast was served. Nobody came to clear out toast plate away, our coffee cups or cereal bowl. Even when breakfast came no one cleared our table so I had to place all our plates on the table next to ours and these didn't get cleared away for a while either. To be honest the restaurant wasn't exactly busy either possibly 20 people if that. Anonymous 26 November 2014
4.5 star ratingRoof top garden was lovely. Great breakfast. Not 5* Room more basic. Service was not 5*. Couldn't locate bags, didn't tell us about unusual layout of hotel where you have to go up to 3rd floor and along to get in or out which took too long and long wait for drinks.
