3.5 star ratingGreat location, very friendly staff and fantastic view of castle from restaurantFirst room we were allocated was poor - in rear section of hotel - walls badly marked and scuffed, soft furnishings worn, wooden floor scuffed, dubious white stains on bed cushions, room generally dusty and not clean. After complaining, we were upgraded to a fantastic room at the front of the hotel which was first class. The bstaff dealt with the issue very well. 27 October 2008
4.5 star ratingexcellent hotel very close to town and amenities very well managed 05 November 2008
4.0 star ratingGood value for money hotel in the Old Town. Plenty of bars and restaurants close by. Also has the advantage of a small pool and steam room.Room service arrived just after 4pm to service the room. We arrived on Friday and were informed by reception breakfast was up to 11am. We arrived at 10.05 on the Monday morning only to be informed that it was infact 10am on week-days and breakfast had finished (by 5 mins!!!)14 January 2009
4.0 star ratingGood location. Very nice staff.Breakfast a little chaotic, due to the number of groups. Nothing much the hotel could do.04 February 2009
3.5 star ratingVery good standard considering the price. Swimming pool and sauna nice addition considering budget. Restaurant views superb for weekend breakfasts. Nasty stale smell through the corridors. Also sheets and towels smell stale, like they have been sitting in a cupboard too long. 21 January 2009
4.0 star ratingAll hotel staff we had contact with gave 100Far too noisy! We have stayed on the Royal Mile in the Radisson Blu etc many times and the noise was nowhere near as bad. Better glazing needs to be seriously considered at the Apex. God knows what it must be like in hot weather with no air con maries16306 October 2010
3.5 star ratingGood location, nice lounge and bar area, didn't eat in the restaurant but it looked very nice. The staff very helpful. The room had no shower caps or shower gel, also the room was very hot even though it wasn't a warm day out side. No air con (there was a fan which did help) but if you opened the window it was too noisey to sleep.Murrin12 June 2011
5.0 star ratingStaff were very pleasant and helpful throughout my stay. Would not hesitate to book into this hotel again. Looking forward to my next visit in October.Mags28 June 2011
5.0 star ratingExcellent service, friendly staff, beautiful location and a perfect stay! The hassle to charge things to a room at residents bar, would be easier to accept cash.Nikums27 July 2011
5.0 star ratingReception staff were particularly helpful and friendly. Loved the view from dining room. Really liked the 12 o clock check out and being able to leave bags downstairs to pick up later as we had function in afternoon then train to catch. Thank you.10 July 2011
4.0 star ratingLarge spacious roomGot given disabled room, room temperature hotter than the sun. Had to request for another fan, had 2 fans in the room which made the temp bearable, no view of the castle as advertised!Davies03 August 2011
4.0 star ratingThe hotel staff were superb, friendly, approachable and attentive. Reception staff were always available and happy to help, cleaners and porters were efficient and the bar staff were excellent. The parking was also a very handy feature, being regular visitors to Edinburgh this made our lives easier and also meant the usual extortionate fee's for Edinburgh city center parking were avoided.Even thought the weather when we visited was warm, the Hotel was overly hot. The room we had was not air conditioned, and although a fan had been provided it was not very comfortable at all. The corridors were the worst place to be though and were far to hot at all times throughout the day. Our room was acceptable but had I been paying full rates I think I may have been a little disappointed with size and finish in comparison to the multitude of similar hotels we have used in Edinburgh (we travel to the city twice a year and this was our first stay at the Apex). The bathroom was also badly ventilated and very warm, we also had opening windows on to the rear bar area which was very noisy at night time with several weddings taking place. We also had a lot of noise from the bottle bins at the back of the building being emptied regularly. Lastly, the lifts were of a poor standard. Slow to call, often stopping at random floors and also over used by staff. I only used the lift on two occasions without it being used to transport hoovers, cleaning equipment, housekeeping trolleys and multiple members of staff. At one point my wife and I declined to enter a lift because it was completely full of staff members and we could not fit in.04 August 2011

4.0 star ratingunfortunately on our last morning we were woken and disturbed by hotel decorators painting the corridor outside our room, I feel a warning about this would have been appreciated or rooms where decorating was taking place were not used for that period. 15 September 2011
5.0 star ratingHotel was really nice, the view from the room was amazing. Room was really clean and all the staff were friendly. Excellent location. :D None. :Dwee_broon15 September 2011
3.5 star ratingClean, Friendly staff. Made up for losing my reservation by upgrading my room. Lost my reservation. Kept waiting for 50 minutes until it was found. Paid £60 more than our friends for the same room type. (After my "upgrade")11 October 2011
3.5 star ratingThe rooms were plenty big enough and great locationWe had a faulty window and I told reception on the 1st day but nothing was done about it. We didn't have any noise on 1st night but the 2nd night was a Friday and my partner was kept awake by people in the streets28 November 2011
4.5 star ratingCentrally located looking at the castle. Staff very friendly. Room was quite small and shower not the most powerful but it was clean and all that we needed. Breakfast was quite expensive for what it was but for the convenience of eating in the hotel and the views made it worthwhile.23 November 2011
4.5 star ratingA lovely hotel with excellent views of the castle. All of the luxuries - you would want plus some little extras which were nice touches. Extremely efficient staff. A lovely hotel which we would recommend! The rooms were very warm and because it was on a noisy street, we didn't want to open the windows. 31 October 2011
