4.5 star ratingNice building, friendly staff, spacious room, good bed. Very good price-quality ratio.Old bathroom. Quality of the rooms very variable; our colleagues had an extremely small room in the basement.Christa07 July 2009
2.5 star ratingReception was very friendly and helpful; let us leave a case on final day Triple room with continental breakfast - coffee tray in room Good backpackers' stop Shower holder and hair dryer broken. Shabby furnishings Breakfast staff were unfriendly - resented us arriving at 8.40 -- had to ask for cups, etc. Breakfast definitely ends at 9am -- they even removed the coffee and dismantled the orange juice dispenserFamily of 3 - with teenage son03 July 2009

4.5 star ratingVery central location which was ideal. Clean You get what you pay for but the breakfast could have been a little more imaginative! Cold ham, cheddar with tea cakes 30 November 2010

3.5 star ratingthe hotel is nice, very clean, well located and good value for money - I think it only need to review its idraulic system...room 14+16 NO hot water during morning, it's not nice to wake up with a frozen shower or complain to the reception and understand that you have to take yr shower into another room: "maintenance is taking care of it" it's a nice reply to hear, but change room would be preferable and more confortable for me, but no chance for this...carlo14 December 2010

4.0 star ratingVery good value for money - spacious room with great shower, helpful and pleasant staff, adequate breakfast and availability of left luggage facility free of charge. Convenient location for trains, buses, airport and city centre. I was most impressed.Lack of decent beer in small bar!Ansy28 February 2011
3.5 star ratingClean, friendly staff, good value for moneySlightly noisy during the night, lots of dorrs banging loudly and everytime upstairs flushed their toilet it sounded like the water would come into our room!05 April 2011
4.0 star ratingHad a comfortable stay, the reception staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast staff were very helpful and attentive. Good location to walk into City centre. First night ( Monday/Tuesday ) was very noisy - woken at 4 30am by people leaving and slamming doors - this was reported to reception on Tuesday morning. Room OK but found that the double bed up against the wall was a bit inconvenient !! 04 April 2011
3.0 star ratingBooked room with en suite but room did not have an en suite. Staff found us another room but this had double rather than two single beds as requestedPlumbing noise's kept us awake most of the night. Garden furniture cushions were wet and sogy, staining a pair of trousers when sat on. No tea and coffe satchets in room.Phil15 August 2011
3.0 star ratingThe shower was amazing. Clean and tidy within hotel. Bed comfy enough.Damp on the wall in the room. Deceiving photos on the website not as modern as it looked online. Beer garden/smoking area had old tattered tables and chairs and a few bits of rubbish. The whole hotel could do with a refit.Mrs Sumner27 March 2012

3.0 star ratingNot much positive I'm afraid. For 1 night it's ok but I wouldn't want to stay longer. Good, powerful shower. Bathroom fineShabby small room down in the basement (room 10). Electricity cut at about 9pm and couldn't watch the olympics anymore. Not one plug had electricity to charge my phone. Had to do it at breakfast. Member of staff tried his best but wasn't able to get electricity working again. Fideris15 August 2012

4.5 star ratingNear everything, nice airy room, fresh bathroom also. good that the staff was in the reception around the clock. really enjoyed the old building and the street it was on - very historical and nice. cleaningstaff was good, they came as soon as we put up the doorsign. staff ask us if we wanted help with luggage - good. we got what we asked for when we had "special needs".the sofa was a bit too hard to sleep on, a thicker madrass would be great. otherwise we have nothing to complain about, maybe a little refrigiator would be good also, maria and christoffer/swe17 October 2012
4.0 star ratingDas Hotel gefiel mir sehr gut. Personal war freundlich, check-in/out schnell erledigt, alles sauber. Das Frühstück ist dem Standard entsprechend, aber auch hier kein Grund zur Beschwerde. Das einzige was mich störte waren die unzeitgemäß hohen Kosten für das Internet.Maik13 October 2012

5.0 star ratingExcellent value for money. Room was very clean and spacious. Staff were very helpful and friendly. We left the do not disturb sign on our door by accident and clean towels were left outside the room - Never been to a hotel that did this before even with bigger star ratings - Staff halped us with luggage and allowed us to leave at the hotel through the day when we were going home so we could see more of the city. Would recommend to anybody - excellent. Thank youThe only negative is the reception of the internet in the hotel room and when we paid for wifi it wasnt that fastest - apart from that everything was spot on. Anthony Dair04 December 2012
3.5 star ratingAll staff were excellent, great locationDamp smell in the room, and an unpleasant odour in the bathroom which strangely did not have a bath mat which meant a wet floor.21 November 2012
4.0 star ratingVery pleasd with our stay at Piries Hotel. We would certainly hope to return our visit. Any criticisms below are offered in good faithEnsuite showed some discolouring of the shower grouting. Electric shower seemed difficult to get a comfortable temperature Sink tap conection seemed loose and may have a small leak. A corner of the stair carpeting is frayed and if not dealt with soon may become an expensive repair.Paul29 November 2012
4.0 star ratingWhere to start. This may be biased slightly by the circumstances. We were lucky enough to end up with the suite (room 14) for our stay of 3 nights for 105 quid. They had us down for a twin when i'd booked a double. The other double they showed us was very small so we said we'd stay in the twin and then they came back to us and offered the suite. Service therefore as far as i was concerned was excellent. The staff were good too...particularly the Spanish couple who met us and sorted the room. Big thumbs up to the lad from Barca although i didn't get his name. I would say that had we ended up with the smaller room i would have been less happy but at 105 quid for three nights you have to be realistic about these things so i would still have said it was ok for the money. As it was we had an awesome weekend and would definitely go back....Budget hotel in Edinburgh centre. It could do with some investment to tidy up the bathrooms and some slightly shoddy decorating/fixing work.Batboy29 November 2012
1.0 star ratingNo running water in tap in Bathroom , very difficult to turn shower on with soapy hands. Unable to fill kettle. Shower was not clean, several black hairs. Also several balls of hair on carpet. Bedside light did not work. All this made for an uncomfortable stay. Too add to this my colleagues room got broken into and they had personal belongings taken.EM07 December 2012

2.5 star ratingHaymarket Train Station, Taxi Rank We unfortunately returned from an xmas party to discover someone had been in our room and taken our bags. The room we were in - the door doesn't shut as it should and it needed to be pulled hard to lock, which wasn't checked and someone helped themselves. Due to the layout of reception and the doors to the hotel staying open late, anyone is able to walk in from the street unnoticed which is what this particular chap done, he was caught on CCTV (which we were told wouldn't have picked up anything) checking all the door handles - so make sure you close your door tight. Upon reporting the incident we were made to feel uncomfortable with no urgency from the night shift who may I add, was on his own with nobody to cover him if he needed to leave reception nor a manager to be seen. We were moved to another room an hour later where the en suite bathroom reeked of sewage. In both rooms we were put in to, water was left in the kettles from previous tenants, there was rubbish in the bin and there were finishing touches the second room had the first didn't which indicates things weren't as thooughly prepared as they should be. The following morning we had to go down and ask to speak to a manager, nobody thought to approach us or check on us. There was no sympathy or goodwill gesture made and to this day no follow up.edindoll14 December 2012

4.0 star rating- The room, including the on-suite bathroom, was very comfortable and clean. - The staff was very helpful, competent and welcoming. - Good value for money. - Overall I found the hotel cosy, had an enjoyable stay and would happily recommend the hotel.- I regretted the lack of parking facilities near the hotel. The nearby Morrison car park is not free, it added to the total cost of the stay and I had to permanently keep in mind to renew my parking ticket (with enough £1 and £2 coins in my wallet as £5 and £10 notes were not accepted!). - The dining area is small for the number of rooms in the hotel. Some mornings, it was difficult to find a table for breakfast. - Maybe a better control of the entrance is desirable, as on Saturday night some (perhaps) young and drunk people came in at 4 am and shouted in the staircase, awaking the customers. - Although I am healthy and therefore this is not applicable for me, the absence of a lift could pose a problem to elderlies or disabled customers.Phil18 April 2013

4.0 star ratingThe 3 th beth was not a normal bed, but it was OK. The airlink bus to the airport is very close to the hotel and also the bus to the centre. There are some restaurants and shops very nearby. Not negative, but clients have to know walking to the centre is aprox. 10 - 15 minutes walk, but you can also take the bus to the centre. It would be nice if you could also order eggs in the hotel for breakfast, this was not possible even if you wanted to pay for it.03 July 2013
3.0 star ratingBreakfast was nice and the staff were exceptionally helpfulThis Hotel desperately needs upgrading. We were in Room 70. The shared bathroom has rust behind the taps on the bath and the sink taps are falling off. The staircase leading to the room has not had the treads dusted in a long time. This part of the hotel looks tired and dated13 August 2013
4.0 star ratingThe hotel was good value for money. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. We didn't have food at the hotel so that has brought the score down. But I would stay there again and I would recommend the hotelFenty10 September 2013
3.5 star ratingVery convenient for Haymarket station, but still easily in walking distance of Edinburgh proper. The staff were very polite and accommodated our special requests for an iron and ironing board in our room, which was very handy. The curtains in the room were fantastic! I had no idea what time of day it was when I woke up in the morning, the curtains kept the light out brilliantly! I want some at home. Although it was a double room (room 24), it was very small and the bed was in a corner. This meant that it could only be accessed on one side and the configuration of the room was such that the dressing table was immediately at the foot of the bed, so it made getting into and out of bed very difficult for me (who was stuck with the wall side of the bed). The shower was VERY temperamental and rapidly increased in temperature until it was hot enough to cook you, but if you tried to alter the temp it went cold and you had to turn it off to reset it. Very annoying! Generally there was a lot of noise in the hotel from guests going up and down stairs, and from the plumbing in the adjacent rooms. If staying again I would request a room away from the main thoroughfare.Peggy14 April 2014
3.0 star ratingThe choice of food is very limited, Panini or Panini, just as well there are restaurants down the road. It would possibly benefit from a small refrigerator in the rooms, When booking the room it does not say you have to pay for the internet? most hotels supply it free?.Anonymous 14 May 2014

3.0 star ratingNice reception staff. Good locationRoom smelt a bit of damp. The carpet needed a good vacuum especially near the skirting boards and whilst looking for the TV remote I found an old sock under the bed. When the description said parking available it is extremely limited and costly. 2.40 per hour between 8-6 Monday to Saturday. Free on sunday but you can only stay there for four hoursAnonymous 27 August 2015
1.0 star ratingAre you kidding me?!Hotel is a 20 min walk to the main street. The room was smaller than a toilet cubicle. The breakfast was a complete joke. DO NOT STAY HERE.Joanne25 February 2017
