4.0 star ratingI would certainly use this hotel again and recommend it to my friends and family.13 September 2008
4.5 star ratingThoroughly enjoyed my short stay. Service could not be faulted and although I chose not have breakfast it was there for me. I was heading for the airport with two hours to spare there so just had breakfast while I was waiting. I have already recommended the hotel to friends. 29 September 2008
4.5 star ratingAfter we complained about the what i have described below, the hotel very kindly found us another room an up-graded room, very promptly and this is why we have given the hotel the scores we have given them. It was the total opposite to the first room we were in. Nice, clean, spacious,a huge T.V on the wall, and the breakfasts in the morning were quality. When we went back for our bags to the 'awful room' to there credit the staff had organised a team to go in and clean the room. A very enjoyable stay and Edinburgh is a fantastic city. We were put in what the hotel called a lodge, and when we carted our bags 100yards down the main road from the actual hotel we were disgusted with the building and then the room. The front garden of this building was all overgrown, then walking in to the hallway it stunk of cigarettes, we climbed the stairs and into our room where we were greeted with a dark and dingy room with cobwebs on the ceiling and even worse a very smelly bathroom, which i won't describe what it smelt like. 06 August 2010

2.5 star ratingStaff mainly helpful but had to be pushed. Room clean and bed fomfortable.Pokey, drab, dingy, poor decor, ill maintained. Would not go back if you paid me. Two floors, forty-eight steps on six flights, two fire screen doors and no lift is a bit much in the 21st century. This part of the hotel is out-dated and badly in need of complete renovation or immediate closure. Would not recommend it to anyone in its present condition. Stayed in the new part with my wife three years ago and it was a dream in comparison.Sadly disappointed. Willing to elaborate if required but only in writing. Anonymous13 March 2013
4.5 star ratingFriendly and helpful staff. Lovely hotel. The shower in the bathroom was powerful and luxurious. Easy to get to the City Centre. The room was a little on the small side. Couldn't open the wardrobe door fully as the door closure was in the way, and couldn't open the bathroom door fully as the heat rail with the towels was in the way. Anonymous 14 January 2017
