2.0 star ratingMy main complaint about our stay is in regard to the attitude displayed by the Front of House Manager who actually had to audacity to speak down to both myself and my friend, also a guest at the hotel, when we requested that the heated towel rails in our bathrooms be switched on. We were told that they had been turned off in order to save money. As a paying customer I do not feel that economies should be at the expense of the hotel quests. The room was basic at best and not in my opinion very clean , the hair dryer did not work, and the iron that we requested be sent to our room actually fell apart in my husbands hands when he tried to use it. It was only the concern and consideration of the Duty Manager when I voiced my concerns that redeemed the hotel in any . I have stayed in many hotels worldwide and this is, in my opinion one of the poorest. Suffice to say I shall not be staying at the Point Hotel again16 August 2008
On arrival I was told that I was double booked and therefore denied my room! I had to go to another hotel!12 September 2008
4.0 star ratingGood location, we had a view of the castle. Pleasant helpful staff. Excellent breakfast. Rooms looking a little tired now, bathroom neded decorating, mould on tiles. Very close to lap dancing etc, didn't bother us may offend families. Unusual style, not sure if I loved or hated it, but it certainly was different to the norm.27 October 2008
3.5 star ratingGood service. Breakfast very good. Fantastic view of the castle.Room design somewhat unusual. Bathroom could do with updating. The upper lobby and hallways do not seem particularly welcoming.14 October 2008
3.5 star ratingConvenient location. Good breakfast and nice bar where you can have a drink and relax. Communal areas were clean. Staff professional and helpful. The room was very big with nice flat TV.Noise from the street throughout the night. Bathroom not very clean. There was considerable mildew around the bathtab which I find unacceptable.04 November 2008
4.5 star ratingthe hotel is very spacious. The meember of staff who checked me in was efficient and dealt with me immediately. She also very clearly told me the route to my room which is helpful when arriving with a lot of luggage as I could head straight for it from the lift. I don't like the wierdly lit corridors - very spooky for a single woman traveller - all very austere rather than just minimalistic The radiator controls were not easy to locate - little tiny switches at the side - not so easy for the partially sighted - perhaps a small notice on the wall saying "on/off/temp controls here"06 November 2008
4.0 star ratingGood value for money, huge bed, lovely view of castleNoise level in corridors in early hours of the morning due to a function being held in the penthouse suite08 December 2008

4.5 star ratingThe Bar Staff were very friendily indeed, and made the stay that much more enjoyable. Also the 'front of house' staff were all helpful too. Noisy neighbours in an ajoining hotel room were very loud and annoying at 2,30am due to their christmas party being held at the hotel. Not an issue, just a seasonal observation!24 December 2008
4.0 star ratingGood location; pleasant environmentTraffic noise; bizarre decor in rooms and accommodation lobbies (may have won prizes, but that was then!); inadequate lighting in rooms - OK most of the time, but not when you need to find something, like the television switch.05 January 2009
4.0 star ratingconvenient for castle and new year festivalnoise of closing doors to exessive and of traffic 05 January 2009
3.5 star ratingGreat rooms Great value Good location, near attractionsVery noisy at weekend (several bars next to the hotel and noise went pon till 4 in the moring). Water pressure in the shower was ridiculously strong.25 February 2009

4.5 star ratingI had asked for a view of the castle and we had a lovely view from our window. Check in was great with someone who spoke english. Our beds were not made when we returned on Sunday although I had pulled the quilts up.15 April 2009
4.0 star ratingDespite the pressures of Edinburgh Festival and the Tattoo, your staff were delightful. thoughtful and friendly 10 /10 and congratulations. They went out of their to make us as comfortable as possible and understood our concern about lack of air in the room originally allocated, providing us with fans (which unfortunately just stirred the hot air around!)It's such a pity there is no air conditioning - something we expected for the horrific prices that prevail at the time of the Festival and Tattoo. You MUST do something about this and soon. We would not recommend your hotel to friends unless there was better ventilation (and about which you are silent in your publicity!!!)31 August 2009

4.5 star ratingVery good hotel, great location lovely staff. The breakfast buffet will keep your hunger away until evening hours and it is of good quality. Happy for our selection, it is right in the middle of everywhere, castle is 10 min away on foot, old town really close and shops are not far either. The only issue there is no double glaze but room was warm enough with temp around 0 outside. Would definetely stay there again in my next visit to Edi.George29 November 2011

2.5 star ratingThe food was fantastic but not for young children. This was my worst ever experience in a Hotel. We always choose Glasgow to stay but for the first time decided on Edinburgh so we could visit the Pandas and it was a family treat for my 30th Birthday. On arrival we were impressed with enterance, we received our key card from very friendly staff and headed straight to out family room. As soon as the lift doors opened our hearts sank it was as if we had travelly back in time and arrived in very run down block of flats. On opening our room door the coldness hit you first a very large room which was run down and cold. We went to turn the one and only electric heater up to find no knob on the heater so decided to close curtains to keep some heat in but they did not fully close. I decided to request change of room. Reception were very nice and delt with my issues but I don't think they fully understood what I was trying to explain, we were given another room which I think was classed as one of their more superior rooms with sofa. As soon as we opened door there was quite unpleasent smell although was slight improvement from the first room. The room was warmer and the curtains closed!, we had requested extra child's bed but never got it. Anyway on returning to Hotel for evening meal we found the kid's menu far to fancy, children like basic food. We were not made aware to expect noise through the night well the noise was horrendous from both clubbers and traffic, also due to no ventilation or working bathroom fan the room was quick to condensate this triggered my daughters asthma which has barely bothered her since being on inhalers for the last two years. The second night we had drunk people knocking on our door at 1am and again kept awake with noise and again my daughter up half the night with her asthma (which has not bothered her since arriving home) The whole trip was awful, this hotel should not be classed as 3 star nor should it be recommended for families. If we could have afforded to book into another hotel we would have.kermit14 February 2012

3.5 star ratingFor the money in a city centre hotel the room was quite large, clean, with tv, tea/coffee. They even left us an advisory note to keep the curtains closed on sunday morning while the external window cleaners were working.01 May 2013

4.5 star ratingA very pleasant stay to say the least. Located in the old town, a walking distance from the very cute Grassmarket square, the well known Princes Street and Royal Mile, and of course the castle that can be seen from the hotel. Having only stayed 1night, this hotel exceeded my expectations. Staff was very friendly, helpful and professional. The room, average size, was neat and the bed very comfortable. Breakfast was to die for and perhaps one of the highlights of our stay. Would highly recommend this hotel! My only tiny criticism would be the size of the room, as it was slightly on the smaller side I thought. However this was compensated by the gorgeous view of the castle that the receptionist kindly put us in for.Anna K15 February 2016
