5.0 star ratingBetween the 3 stars hotels I was in my life, this was the best. The hotel is in a very good location in Edinburgh, the staff was educated, attentive, kind and nice. The scotish breakfast was very good, we could taste some delicious haggis. The room was good. There was only a thick bedspread, so I missed a thin bedspread for the days that aren't much cold. Nothing more.12 November 2008
4.5 star ratingThe room was a nice size, it was clean and bright, there was plenty of space for all four of us (I was staying in a family room with my nephew, my friend and her daughter). The bathroom was spacious and there was plenty of tea/coffee etc.I used the "fold away" bed that we were given, and although it was comfortable, when I got out of bed, then metal edges of the bed were stickign out and not covered with anything and I scraped my leg against it, causing a scratch aprox 10 inches long. I left this comment on a card at the hotel. Small comment - there were only 3 cups for 4 people in the room. Not worth worrying about, probably just an oversight.10 November 2008
5.0 star ratinglovely staff on the front desk and also cleaning staff were very polite.bar said to be open until 0100, closed at 2350. At breakfast no one to take room number at the door and then told off by staff for going ahead to have breakfast??16 February 2009
4.5 star ratingHotel recently refurbished and rooms in good condition. Everything was clean and tidy and staff friendly. The hotel is 200 metres from Princes Street and is ideal for shopping and seeing the sights.Try not to look at the outside of the hotel as you approach or you may choose never to enter. It is the most appalling, 1960's, concrete monstrosity. There is no parking at the hotel whatever they tell you and you have to park in the NCP next door at £19 per day.mark ~& jen16 March 2009

4.0 star ratingVery good location, friendly and helpful staff, extremely pleased to see Ice available for guests. Good standard room, clean and comfortable. Bar prices mean't that we tended not to stay and drink there, we had one during the entire stay and then went outside the hotel where there was a marked difference in price. Due to the cost of the bar we did not even consider eating in the hotel, again went out. 07 November 2009
3.0 star ratingClean; very convenient for City Centre. Breakfast selection good For a 4star hotel they made no effort to find a double room-instead of the twin we were booked into. They could have tried. Also for a 4star hotel I'd expect a fridge in the bedroom-there wasnt one. Other little things. So overall it was not bad but scarcely value at the pricemike03 November 2010
5.0 star ratingAmazing customer service - very helpful. Room much bigger than expected and had excellent facilities including tea and coffee making, iron, etc.. Nice large bathroom. Breakfast service was also fantastic and there was a great selection of food. Ideal location near to Waverley Station. The bus for the Royal Yacht Britannia stopped outside the hotel, so that was very convenient.Water pressure in shower on 5th floor was a quite weak. Vera05 August 2011
4.0 star ratingPleasant staff. Room was clean and beds were comfy. No free Wifi. All the other hotels in the immediate area provide this, why not Thistle? Room was cold at night. Very noisy. Walls are thin and we could hear EVERYTHING from the room next door, and someone put a noisy fan came on at 4am! The second night there there was a dreadful noise coming from radiator so got little sleep.Splodge24 October 2011
4.5 star ratingLovely staff, helpful from beginning to end. Room was lovely, extra pillows and towels if needed. We had a lovely stay, highly recommended.Slight road noise may disturb a light sleeper. Didnt bother us though.28 November 2011
4.5 star ratingStaff very friendly ,Ideal location for Playhouse theatre and surrounding area. Could do with a bit of refurbishment i.e paintwork and grouting of bathroom tiles.06 November 2011
5.0 star ratingRoom was lovely and clean (albeit a bit dated). My daughter (aged 6) and I stayed a Sunday night and the hotel was thankfully quiet. Staff were very helpful Room faced into Leith Road and there was a bit of traffic/public noise. As, at home, we're not used to this was more aware of it RD28 February 2012
5.0 star ratingsuperb hotel in a great central spot in Edinburgh.Reception staff were great as were restaurant staff and breakfast was wonderful. served until 11.00am just right after a late night on the town.the only downside in this hotel were the bar prices which were quite high considering theres a great selection of cheaper bars on the doorstep.Tinkerbell27 March 2012
2.0 star ratingVery poor 4 star hotel. In desperate need of a facelift. Missing a decent hotel bar. Would NEVER stay there again, although the location is good. Out of date and worst pillows in the world.sirry26 October 2012
3.5 star ratingRoom was lovely (albeit a rubbish view). Staff were conscientious.Decor was tired around the hotel, plates in the restaurant had only been cleaned on the top-side KP01 April 2013
3.0 star ratingGood and central location. The room was very hot and little possibility to lower temperature. It was also a lot of noise from the street and we could not have the window open. I think room towards the back would have been a lot better.Kindem12 June 2013
