4.0 star ratingTavistock is a good hotel to stay for most visits.Breakfast was a little less than I expected for choice but probably because there are a large number of visitors to cater for.15 August 2008
3.0 star ratingEverything (room, furnishings, comfort, cleanliness, bathroom facilities, housekeeping, reception, etc.) was just fine. A competitive rate which includes a good breakfast - a dining room breakfast which was efficient and well organised. Good value for money for a central london location good for business or pleasure.15 September 2008
2.5 star ratingpleasant staff, good location. Clean. Great shower! Breakfast amplesmall room, overlooking noisy ducting. When I asked for another I was given one exactly the same size overlooking the same ducting! Mattress rather poor. Towels small. Soap provided but not shampoo. TV remote didn't work. Breakfast middling quality.23 September 2008
4.5 star ratingThe only comment we have to make is that perhaps some redocorating is required, otherwise everything else was just fine.23 September 2008
4.0 star ratingThe hotel is situated in Tavistock Square and therefore close to public transport and to all the well known London attractions. The hotel public rooms were in Art Deco (or Art Nouveau) style and were well maintained . All of the staff that we encountered were friendly and helpful. The room was small and basic. The view of Tavistock Square was a pleasant surprise. Breakfast was very good. For the location in central London the price was good. The bedroom and furnishings were quite worn and in need of updating. The lighting was by flourescent tube which is not the most restful form of ambient lighting. All in all a fresh coat of paint and a general brightening of the decor would work wonders. Two petty items were that there were only four hangers (one broken) in the wardrobe and no hairdryer was provided although one was obtainable from housekeeping. 24 September 2008

4.0 star ratingGood price for the locationSingle beds in the twin room was really not at all comfortable - saggy and springy02 November 2008
4.5 star ratingAll our needs were met during our stay. we always choose the tavistock hotel we use the hotel 3 to 4 times a year. the staff are very good. housekeeping and catering are of the highest standard. The room we stayed in this visit was very close to the lift and was quite noisey. also there was a strong smell of cigarette smoke in our toilet...perhaps coming from vents to another room.06 November 2008
2.5 star ratingGreat Location !!!! Easy tube connection, walking distance to the centre. Price.Room cleanliness poor. We stayed 5 nights - 2 coat-hangers in the "so-called" wardrobe - never got more because we have been told they do not have any. When asked for the parking possibilities, have been told to check the prices on the wall??Breakfast - never coould find a clean table to sit - we were cleaning the table ourselves twice. Disorganized staff at breakfast, the gentleman who welcomes you to breakfast never smiles.18 November 2008
4.0 star ratingGood efficient welcome.01 December 2008
1.5 star ratingNone positiveNot of a 3 star standard. Seperate bathroom/toilet extremely small - room 202- impossible to enter toilet without turning sideways. Bathroom floor THREE FEET wide! Can I have my money back please? Bar area dated and cold with outworn furniture. Bed covers were removed by us immediately - stained and unhygenic. No other rooms offered due to - they said - hotel very busy.04 December 2008

4.0 star ratingThis is a good value for money hotel. Accomodation is at an acceptable standard and the facilities that are present are good. I would recommend this hotel and use it again at the same or similar rate.24 May 2009

3.0 star ratingGood location.Breakfast was poor in terms of quality and variety. Staff appeared disinterested. Room was clean, but basic. No toiletries other then a few soap tablets. Tea and coffee ok, but no biscuits.17 June 2009
2.5 star ratingI booked this hotel as the advertisement on the internet promised a car park and to my horror the staff on the reception did not know anything about it. I had to park on the street. The room was dirty, the carpet was old and matted and the beds.............. I can?t explain but I never took the cover off and slept on it as the blanket was all matted as if it was from an old hospital ward. The TV was like the one I threw away 10 years earlier. The Shower was good and so was the breakfast- The only two things that kept me there as I was on a conference most of my day and just went back to the hotel to sleep. I would not recommend this to anyone with allergies. The location is excellent but it is a pity they have not kept this as nice as the pictures suggest.16 June 2009
4.0 star ratingThe room was tidy and quiet and large enoughCouldn't shut the window properly (may have been a problem in winter time!) and consequently there were some bugs in the room. I don't think the bugs had anything to do with the cleanliness of the room though, as the room seemed to be very clean at first glance. There was no fire escape plan/procedure on show in the room.27 August 2009

2.0 star ratingLocation is perfect. Parking outside C-zone. Walk to hotel. 30min walk to leicester sq. 3 tube staions within 5min walk.Hotel looks old and used. Cool art deco style though.01 September 2009
3.0 star rating'Does exactly what it says on the can' - affordable, good night's sleep, secure, close to the activities I wantReputed that rooms above floor 3 are unrenovated - I had one of these, in fairness about 9 years ago, and it was horrible. maybe this has changed now. I always request a room on third floor or lower and these seem fine. The central heating was a bit fierce but it was unexpectedly warm for the time of year.28 October 2009
5.0 star ratingNice size room, i was alone but would be just as spacious for two people. Clean and comfortable bedroom and bathroom , decent storage for your clothes. I was on the 1st floor at the front of the hotel and there was a bar on the ground floor with very loud music that went on till 12.30am the 1st night and 3am the 2nd night so couldn't sleep. Asked to move rooms the 3rd night and was put up on the 7th floor which was much better. The restaurant also got very busy and maybe could have been a bit bigger for the size of the hotel.01 November 2009
4.5 star ratingAlways use this hotel when in London; reasonable price, central and comfortable.24 November 2009
4.0 star rating Friendly, down to earth provision in prime location in London. 11 December 2009
3.5 star ratingWithin easy walking distance of Euston station and Russell Square Underground. Spotlessly clean. Staff were efficient.Queuing for breakfast was a bind and the set up for food was haphazard. Would have liked a few more towels-only 2 between 2 people. And more coffe-again only 2 sachets between 2 people.Hx04 December 2009
4.5 star ratingGood, safe and cenrtal locatation, staff friendly and helpful yet not intrusive. Price was competative and provided goos value for money.Nothing negative to sayBroz12 March 2010
5.0 star ratingThanks very much for a great, economical overnight stay. Unfortunately, I didn't have sufficient time to make use of many of the facilities on offer, but the friendliness and efficiency of your front-of-house staff during the check-in process was much appreciated. I would certainly book with you again, and will happily recommend you to friends and colleagues in the future.05 February 2010
3.0 star ratingIt was cheap and a great location. near the underground and B MuseumRoom was very basic but clean. It looked inwards to other hotel rooms and there were no net curtains for added privacy, which were needed - the drapes were coming off the track and there was a cracked cup but this got replaced. More tea/coffee sachets would have been nice,Jeanniegal07 April 2010

2.0 star ratingnicely located, good room views, good shower, bathroom facilitiesstaff at reception was unhelpful and at no point in time we felt like we are the guest and they are the acting host. Need serious orientation towards customer service for these folks. Room service was ok, but no quality in the work. Bed bugs were there in the bed I guess. 10 July 2010
3.0 star ratingGood location and rooms at back very quiet at nightIf weather hot cannot sleep during night as no air conditioning23 July 2010
1.5 star ratingCentral locationMouldy bathroom. No airconditioning. Unpleasant reception staff who couldnt care about the customers. Noisy banging of bins and emptying of bar bottles every night. The hotel basically doesn't give a crap about their guests and will make noise any time of night! In the heat of summer no airconditioning in a mouldy room is NOT a good move. I ended up checking out early and staying at another hotel nearby at twice the cost. A work mate was staying in the hotel and also checked out early. The hotel is NOT to be recommended at any price.28 July 2010
3.0 star ratingBreakfast was great - waiting staff very polite and efficientCheck in desk was a nightmare, inexperienced staff causing more hindrance than help. The staff who did know what they were doing were too busy thinking about themselves and did not see the staff who needed help.Dominique, Leicestershire08 August 2010

3.5 star ratingGood value for location - booked single but got twin room.Reception staff a little slow to attend but the normal check in time is 2pm and I was a little before this. PMcM18 September 2010
3.5 star ratingGreat location. Nice food served in the wine bar. Very comfy bed and ridiculously powerful shower.Lack of organisation and staff at breakfast. I'd guess that 40-50% of the tables were sat dirty while we hunted for a seat. Seriously understaffed. Had to ask twice for tea. Room didn't appear to have been hoovered and the extractor fan in the bathroom didn't work meaning that a hot shower left the bathroom like a wet room. Bolly14 September 2010
4.5 star ratingClean, and very cheap for the location. In need of a refurbishment.19 September 2010
4.0 star ratingI was initially put in a room on the first floor right by a busy road intersection. I asked to be moved and since they were full on my first night they moved me for my second night. Second room was much quieter and had also been refurbished with a more comfortable bed. Would recommend people stay at this hotel but asked for a refurbished room.14 September 2010

3.0 star ratingroom good size, warm and cleanthe breakfast was dull! As a person with high cholestrol, and on a very low fat diet, I found very little that I could eat, apart from cereal and dry toast. I would have liked to have been able to choose from a greater range of cereals, fresh fruit, low fat spread, rather than being faced with butter, jam and cooked food. Sorry!sheiken113 September 2010
4.0 star ratingExcellent location, if you want Bloomsbury. Nice view of Tavistock Square. Reasonable English breakfast. Nice building on the outside but sligtly too faded on the inside. Absence of continental breakfast alternative. Internet only on the lobby...20 October 2010

4.0 star ratingThe hotel was a bargain! Clean and functional, it is a perfect hotel for the London tourist who just wants somewhere nice to sleep! If you are looking for a fancy hotel then this is not the hotel for you, but if you want a basic hotel as a base for exploring the sights then you can do no better. The breakfast was lovely and will set you up nicely for the day!Our room was at the front of the hotel and it was very noisy. I can usually sleep through anything but it was sufficient to wake me. However, I am confident had I requested we be moved to a different room at the back of the hotel (away from the street) the staff would have been very accomodating.26 September 2010

3.5 star ratingWe had a twin room and asked the reception staff if we could have a double and they moved us immediately with no fuss. Thank you. Breakfast seemed very busy but the staff were very pleasant and efficient and the breakfast was hot and adquate.Hotel looks quite tatty and the floorboards squeak all over the hotel but then it is rated as a 2 star hotel so we expected it. 26 October 2010
4.0 star ratingI personally thought the hotel was almost 3*** star a very good 2**star Staff in general wre excellent, most helpful.Unfortunately Ihad agood deal of trouble getting into my room, the electro/magnetic lock system did not work for me and on numerous occassions I had to seek assistance to get into my room. Aprofessional piece of help would have been to "bleed" the radiator (warm at the bottom cold at the top). ROOM 822 7 out of 10Woodsie (Spud)04 November 2010
4.5 star ratingPolite Staff. Lovely breakfast. Reasonable Bar Prices. Comfortable Furnishings.Tired Bedroom and squeaky wooden floor requiring updating. Evie24 November 2010
Besucher07 November 2010

3.0 star ratingWell positioned in central london. Good value for such a good locationDated hotel which is showing its age. Rooms small with few modern facilities eg internet access, limited tv channels. Breakfast would be very limited if on continental option. Communal areas look scruffy.31 January 2011

5.0 star ratingI found the hotel very clean and friendly. The Left Luggage facility was ideal and allowed me to leave my bags at the hotel both before I was able to check in and alos after I had checked out.The hotel decor looked very old fashioned and my request for additional pillows was declined. 4.0 star ratingI was pleasantly surprised at this hotel, i normally stay more centrally when in London. The room was clean and tidy. The room didnt have aircon, i was on the 8th floor and the room was very hot during the night. I also asked for a quiet room, it wasnt, i had a continuos noise coming from outside. Eatmoreerbs30 June 2011

4.0 star ratingI was very pleased with my room in Tavistock. Clean and comfortable - so much better than the many other hotels I have stayed in, in London. The staff were lovely and helpful especially in the breakfast room. I also ate the restaurant at evenings and the selection of dishes and wines were very reasonably priced. I would recommend the hotel and will be booking again when I next in London. Thank you. Nothing bad to say - all goodBusiness Traveller09 July 2011

3.0 star ratingGood VFM when London hotels are driving prices up I would recommend the hotel but only as back-up if others are not available, not a first choice for me i'm afraid.Rooms are very hot, noise from outside machinery. Lifts are very slow, really frustrating to use. The lobby area sometimes resembles a youth hostel with people lying around on the floor and furniture. Breakfast is a little substandard i'm afraid. 11 July 2011

4.0 star ratingGreat location and very good price for the area.No air/con had to open both windows to cool room. Water flowed out the side of the shower no matter how far curtain pulled back. A plughole in the floor suggests it was a regular occurance but still had to push the water into it as otherwise went all over the floor. Otherwise no problems.Richie26 August 2011
4.0 star ratingHotel was clean and comfortable also well placed for theatreland and rail stations. Buffet breakfast was plentiful and staff were attentive.Only one towel each supplied in bathroom although I believe you could ask for another, if required.Rosa N09 September 2011

4.5 star ratingWe had a wonderful time in London and definitely the situation of the Tavistock made this possible. Breakfasts were good and very pleasant, overlooking the square. My friend and I even enjoyed a lamb curry in the little hotel restaurant. My suggestion would be that it would be good to have a couple of small towels in addition to a bath towel. Also to have tea bags and coffee. Staff were very professional; very helpful, including providing very good directions. At the end of our stay we required a place to leave our luggage and this was provided at minimal cost. All in all we enjoyed our stay and would return.08 June 2012
3.5 star ratingRoom was spacious and cleanShower was controlled by bath taps (not an electric shower unit) and the water quickly became very hot and it was difficult to reach the taps to change the temperature. There was no sign to say that the bathroom door should be kept closed when using the shower otherwise the steam from the shower would trigger the fire alarm sensors. 09 November 2012
3.0 star ratingwell positioned. Nothing special about the hotel it simply did what I needed it to. There was a particularly helpful porter (unfortunately did not get his name) whose knowledge of the area and transport links proved really usefulRooms far too hot - was uncomfortable (that was with no heating on). Went to breakfast slightly later on our second morning and was hectic. Think the times should be extended to least 10.30am. Noticed at 9.50 breakfast foods being cleared away - we had finished our breakfast but some people had only just arrived and not good when advertised as serving until 10am.emmie04 November 2012
4.5 star ratingNice quiet location, friendly atmosphere and very helpful staff, all added to the enjoyment of our stay.Doldy13 December 2012
2.0 star ratingThe shower was warm and that's about it! oh and good location.TV didn't work. Shower leaked everywhere. Stayed on the 4th floor and could still hear the music from downstairs. Only soap was available in the bath room, nothing else like shampoo etc. The heating could not be regulated. 05 December 2012
3.0 star ratingCentral location. Good looking frontage Mattress needed replacing. Lighting very cold and stark. Noisy extractor fan in bathroom. One sloppy server at breakfast (in leather waistcoat of Middle Eastern/Asian origin?). Scowling expression. When asked for coffee, grapped cup, filled it and thumped it on table (spilling contents). No apology or even awareness of misdemeanour.23 April 2013
2.5 star ratingHotel staff, especially the housekeeping and restaurant staff were very "friendly and helpful".The room given to us was like a hospital room with all the cords for lights and handles in the toilets and baths, plus room fllor was creaking each time you walk. But what was dissapointing the most was didnt have any cooling/heating vents, so you only rely on the windows which to me is sooo very old and "antiquated. I dont think i would ever stay in this hotel ever.Ped fromVictoria, Australia 27 April 2013

5.0 star ratingGood location - 7 minutes walk from Euston station. Nice, clean hotel.Did not like the toilet being separate from bathroom, had to go next door to wash hands. Also nowhere to put toothbrush and no soap dish - so soap left a mess beside washhand basin.Cheers30 June 2013

3.5 star ratingYou get exactly what you pay for. Friendly staff and a fantastic location, enables you to get around London whilst being close to a transport hubIt was extremely hot and there was no air conditioning, therefore the windows were open all night on a busy road so noise was a bit of a problem. There was also a huge amount of banging from 0700 so not the best nights sleep. 18 July 2013

4.0 star ratingvery reasonable prices. great location.lady on coffee/tea at breakfast delightful person. changed my room when I askedMy first room literally leaked! water ran down the wall in the bathroom, puddling on the floor and also collected in drips in the doorway lintel, dripping on my head as I entered the room. it also ran out of the wall behind the light switch by the door. the room(as a result no doubt) smelled of damp. I assume since the water trickle increased and decreased that it was coming from a room above(perhaps the shower in that room). I could not have stayed in that room for 5 days. I was moved to another room however which was fine and I was very happy with it09 August 2013

3.5 star ratingwe stayed here last year and were quite satisfied with hotel. Thought was ok. Staff were friendly in dining room and service was good. You could feel the springs through one of the beds. We had to turn the mattress over. Sunday morning went down to breakfast, had a job to find a clean table. Sat down near window with breakfast where i realised the plate by my space was dirty and had just had a clean serviette put on top so i moved it, when waitress came over she moved the plate to other side of table saying had to be there cos she didnt want to make me left handed!! I explained to her that the plate was dirty and thats why it was there. It was obvious by her manner after that, she was not happy with us. She asked us what we wanted to drink but never offered a refill and was quite off putting. The next morning we made sure we were sat in a different part and were served by a much more pleasant person who made sure we were satisfied. We do not normally complain as this often leads to bad feelings and spoils a weekend away but we will not be using this hotel again. Certain staff members need to be better trained.11 September 2013

2.5 star ratingGood location for Kings Cross railway station and Eurostar. The rooms need an update! We were given a cupboard (a very small room ) and after complaining that the room was far to small for two people, we were given another room which was a little bigger but just acceptable. Don't stay there if you can afford a little more!!!!Anonymous 24 July 2014
4.0 star ratingThe price of the room was excellent (for central London) The staff were friendly, the location was perfect for all London attractions. The room was clean. The food was satisfactory. We had to pay a deposit of £20 for a hairdryer, got it back upon return of said hairdryer! No shampoo in bathroom. (only individual soap) we had to go to supermarket to buy shampoo. The room was quite small for two adults.Anonymous 29 October 2014
3.5 star ratingThe hotel's location is wonderful, the closest you can get to Russell square. The staff were very kind, made us feel very welcomed. The public areas are comfort and inviting. The wifi was only available in the entrance, it would have been nice if they included a free wifi available in the rooms also. Also, the rooms were quite small in our opinion. miri02 June 2015
