Hotel Information

Situated not far from the nunnery of San Francisco de Asis, this complex enjoys a convenient location between the convent square and the old square. Terminal de Ferrocarriles de la Habana train station and Viazul bus station are both just steps from the hotel, making it easy for guests to explore the area further. The residence used to be the mansion of the Marquis and Captain of the French Navy, Don Pedro Claudio Duquesne. Once visited by the most select nobility of the time, ecclesiastical dignitaries, military authorities and renowned artists. The house has rooms with exclusive ambiance, a lobby-bar that is decorated with pieces of art, stained-glass windows, statues of monks made out of copper and altarpieces, as well as a quiet inner courtyard with a beautiful fountain and an old well. The 22 rooms have air conditioning and all feature either a balcony or terrace.

ThomasW24 April 2011

3.5 star ratingSee above. Special the place in the old center was beautifull. My friend his suitcase was lost at the flight to Habana. We asked the service desk several times if the suitcase had arrived all ready. Even the day we left the hotel (19 dec. in the morning) they lady from the office desk in the hotel said that there was no suitcase arrived. Air Europa brought the suitcase from the airport on the 18e dec. in the evening with a taxi to the hotel. My friend and i were in the city so he left the suitcase at the desk. Very strange that nowone from the staff reported us, in the evening when we came back or the next day when we left the hotel , no one told us that my friend his suitcase was arrived. So my friend has to use my clothes and other things during ower stay in Hotel Mercure Quatro Palmas at Varadero. And we made a lot of phone calls to the Airport and Air Europe On the last day when we were at the airport Habana to leave the country, the suitcase was brougt with a taxi to the airport from hotel Les Frailes, again costs for us 25 CUC. So thats why we are not sattisfayd of the Staff professionalism. I hope you can do somenthing with this story!! 4.0 star ratingI had booked for three nights and yet the first night - our arrival day in Cuba the room was not available. Another hotel a few blocks away was located and a room provided ( this other hotel was rated 1 more star higher my wife liked it but I preferred Los Frailes). This was the only disappointing aspect of the stay.Mick S27 January 2012

4.0 star ratingOne of the most interesting places I've ever stayed at. Beautiful architecture and in a great location for the old town of HavanaBreakfast wasn't great but it does seem to be the normal suppliment of fruit, bread and eggs. 12 June 2012

3.5 star ratingThe manager and Evelyn Monster (reception staff) were most helpful and apologetic. We moved three times during our stay! When we arrived - after a twenty hour journey! - the air con was not working and so we were moved to another hotel, which was excellent incidentally. Then we moved back to Los Frailles three days later but the room they gave us had a leak in the bathroom ceiling and barely-functioning air con. So we were moved a third time! The hotel offered us free dinner for our trouble but this was a very basic meal I'm afraid. They really should not be accepting customers when they cannot provide the rooms of adequate standard.Lucy30 October 2012

3.0 star ratingExcellent location! Good sized rooms! Really authentic design!Enormous problem with the noise! Due to the fact that all rooms are looking in an interior yard there is a constant noise. Moreover , due to the concept of the hotel there are a lot of groups that visit it so the noise problem becomes bigger. Finally the staff is loud itself. Some of the staff is good while most of them there are terrible! Not friendly or helpful at all!Pellegrina Leone04 February 2013
4.5 star ratingDie zentrale Lage in der Altstadt war super. Alles ist zu Fuß zu erreichen. Die Atmosphäre im Hotel ist sehr entspannend. Mittags gabs es leichte klassische Musik im Foyer. ´Leider hatte unser Zimmer kein Fenster. 24 March 2013
4.0 star ratingNice hotel, close to the Plaza vieja and in walking distance to the interesting places of Havana Vieja. We also had the possibility of staying longer in our room, as the return flight was late in the evening. A hotel we would return to. There's something wrong about the cold water system in the hotel. Hardly any water came out of the tap.We had the same problem in two different rooms.12 April 2013

4.0 star ratingLos Frailes is in an excellent location. In the center of Habana Vieja, it is extremely well located for the historical part of the city. The rooms are clean, well equipped and with a mini bar and good selection of TV channels. Set in an old monastary the whole hotel is themed as such. The staff are dressed as monks (including cleaners). The doors to rooms are very old, huge wooden doors. The rooms are old monastic rooms, and therefore the standard doubles do not have any windows. This didn't bother us and added to the character of the place. The rooms are set around an inner courtyard, which is very atmospheric and nicely kept, developing the monastic theme very well.If you want a window in your room, then best pay for an upgrade of find a different hotel. The staff were efficient but not overly helpful. The internet (a problem it seems in most hotels in Cuba - we went to 3 others before we could find working computers) was not working on the computer in reception. Breakfast was not the best we have had in Cuba.Chris14 April 2013
1.5 star ratingWARNING! 1.This hotel has no "standard double" room, all standard rooms are TWIN. Should you complain about it you get an upgrade offer for Suite double!! 2.None of the "standard double" (ie Twin) rooms has a window. Should you complain about it you get an upgrade offer for Suite double!! 3.All "standard double" (ie Twin) rooms emit an unbearable mold odour 4.The ventillation system at night and the extremely noisy hotel staff in the daytime make this hotel (which is otherwise located in a tranquil pedestrian area) unsuitable for sleep or relax in its dark rooms Achilles04 June 2013
3.5 star ratingLovely building in a very central location. We had only booked for two nights, first night we were not able to stay in the hotel supposedly due to an electricity problem. We were provided an alternative location which I have to say was well below par right down to the very dirty bed sheets that had simply been turned around with the last customer.24 June 2013
