2.5 star ratingexcellent position, close to railway station and in the centre of the city, staff were helpful and pleasent, nice clean hotel, although there was a mix up at check in it was not the fault of the staff and they were ok the lad on the reception was really nice and helpful as we left our luggage for a couple of hoursthe shower in our room was poor(room 216)only one temperature hot,hot or hot!we had to wait 1 hour for our breakfast and then it was not nice(poach egg was hard, toast soggy, black pudding was not nice)check in was tramatic,we had booked 13 rooms but the hotel only had 5 on their system which made me look bad in front of family and friends,as it was my wifes 50th birthday i expected us to have a superior room but we had poorer room than the rest of the party19 August 2008
2.5 star ratingthe residents bar did not open although we had been told it would. i was part of a wedding party and at least 5 people sent back their breakfast mine personally was not cooked either. if i'd have booked direct with the hotel breakfast would have cost £17 which i know some people paid and other than the wedding planner himself the staff were very unhelpfull. There was no security and the groom was asked for money by a beggar who had strolled in off the street.02 September 2008
5.0 star ratingHave to say the hotel was fantastic. The service was brilliant. Rooms great. Situation good to everything in walking distance.20 September 2008
3.5 star ratingBreakfast was served uncooked to me and several others, I returned the food and had to remind the waitress 20mins later. She then brought me the exact same meal with new sausage and it was uncooked again, unlike the rest of my breakfast which had dried up from 20 mins on a hotplate17 September 2008
4.5 star ratingShowers are bad, I stayed in room 419, it has a bath tap mixer and is either scalding hot or freezing cold. Would stop me going back there.26 September 2008

5.0 star ratingI was amazed when we got the room shown on the website, it was exquisite! Everything about our stay was great especially the girl who checked us in on Friday night and was helping with the breakfasts on Sunday. I didn't get her name but she was really nice and helpful, and put us at our ease.I have nothing negative to say about the hotel at all, if I could take this hotel with me wherever I go in the world I would be a happy woman! :D07 October 2008
5.0 star ratingInteresting building, sympathetically renovated with very helpful staffSome memers of our group were in single rooms which I felt were a high price. They paid the same for a single room with breakfast as we did for a twin room with a breakfas each. 14 October 2008

4.5 star ratingExceeded expectations for a city centre hotel and at a very competitive room rate. Staff couldn't have been more helpfulHotel bar didn't seem to attract many residents.30 November 2009
3.5 star ratingextremely helpful, polite staff who couldnt be more helpful - reception staff very welcoming.an extremely dated hotel in need of some T.L.C - ive stopped at various 4* macdonald hotels and this one did not compare - rooms very old fashioned and worn - damp patches on the walls which had dried - definately in need of re-decoration which I believe is in the process of being done - I would imagine it was a very impressive hotel in its day.07 December 2009
2.5 star ratingI cannot give any positive comments about this hotel as, even though our booking was made approx 3 weeks prior, when we arrived at 6pm, they did not have a room for us. The only positive thing I can say is that the poor girl who was left to sort us out did do her best and remained calm and professional throughout.Obviously overbook so it appears that it is first come, first served. Our night in Birmingham was very much a disappointment as we then had to fight to get another room nearby. They tried to book us into a hotel about 30 mins drive away which was absolutely pointless as we had arrangements nearby and had only chosen that hotel purely for the location. The reception is cold and bare and quite unwelcoming. They then booked us into a hotel which was 10 mins drive away but because the traffic was bad, that took longer. Although we ended up in a better quality hotel, we were given a smoking roon when we had specifically asked for a non smoking room. All together spoiled the weekend as we were then upset and stressed and had to change our arrangements.08 December 2009

4.5 star ratingExcellent food quality - free range eggs and oudoor reared pork in the cooked breakfast. Very helpful staff. The hotel is a bit of rabbit warren and could do with improved 9discrete but clear) internal signage. I got seriously lost en route to breakfast! part of teh same issue; it took over ten minutes running the hot tap in the bath before any warm water emerged!apsierlyn21 November 2011

4.5 star ratingVery big room. Builing work opposite started at 8am and I had not been warned. Extremely noisy! The taps in the bath didn't work 24 December 2012
2.0 star ratingI was given room number 307. At the moment there are major construction works at Birmingham New Street station which run through the night. Separating me from the noise of the building site was one pane of glass. Needless to say this was one of the worst nights sleep I have encountered in any hotel. It is beyond me how the hotel has the 'front' to allocate the rooms on that side if the building to paying guests knowing that they may as well be camped on the building site for all the comfort and sleep they will get. The manager of the hotel clearly has no regard for customers and I will never stay in a MacDonald hotel again or recommend them to any contacts (Business or personal). A thoroughly unpleasant stay and the hotel staff/manager should be made to stay in one of those room in order to get an idea what it's like as they clearly have little idea or generally don't care about customer satisfaction. In a service sector where customer satisfaction is key this hotel has very little idea in my opinion.BRUSSELL08 March 2013

3.0 star ratingClose to train station and shopsRoom at back of hotel with window high up looking onto noisy aiir conditioning units (Room 212) Waited 15 minutes to check in at reception There was a private function on until 1am and it backed onto our room so it was very loud and didn't get much sleep the hotel was full so couldn't change rooms I thought it was expensive because of the room that was a located to us it was more like a cell! Yes I would stay again but make sure I had a better room with bigger windows overlooking the station Anonymous 08 April 2017
