4.0 star ratingThe hotel was extremely clean. The hotel is in a beautiful building. The staff were professional, helpful and friendly. The hotel is in a very central location. The hotel is in need of a little TLC (it was extremely clean, but needs a lick of paint and a bit of updating). I walked past the hotel initially as I thought it was a restaurant (lots of signs for food and drinks under restaurant names, but little to indicate it is the Britannia)Penguin25 April 2010
3.5 star ratingEveryone was friendly and polite, room was clean, cheapest you'd get for the locationVery noisy, but as I mentioned the great location, this will always be a downside. However there was so much noise from the hallways on the Saturday night, which I think could have been contained better. Also I was never informed that there was a nightclub under the hotel, so didn't end up having alot of sleep during my stay. Housekeeping never made the bed, we stayed for 4 nights, I've worked in many hotels and this has always been common practice for a stayover.km27 January 2012

4.0 star ratingAlthough old and a bit tired in places, it is a classic beautiful building.Staff varied from upbeat and polite to downbeat and polite.08 November 2013
4.0 star ratingcomfortable and clean room for what I paid and really handy locationbath was pretty rubbish and TV didn't really work but as I was just going for the one night didn't affect me too much, would still use againAnonymous 11 March 2014

2.5 star ratingBeautiful building in a central location, appealing reception.Rooms were very tired and in need of a refurbishment. The carpet had holes in, the wardrobe door had fallen off. Don't expect a quiet night in as the disco next to the hotel goes on until the early morning. Anonymous 15 April 2014
2.0 star ratingBeautful enterance and staircase gives much promise about hotel and is ideal central location. Staff were polite but seemed under trained.Room was outdated, grubby and unpleasent. Clearly needs an update and doesnt come close to advertised price tag, after staying there i wouldnt pay the offer price i did.Anonymous 17 April 2014
5.0 star ratingspot on great hotel, ideal if your having a nightout in town plenty of facilities with a selection of bars and eateries on site our babysitter let us down so we took our 4 year old with us, staff were very helpful especialy when I found myself playing with lego in reception at 5am (with my daughter of course)tv channel selection was not great as there is no freeview or satellite , never realy noticed when I have stopped before but spending more time in the room in the evening made me notice thisAnonymous 08 May 2014
3.0 star ratingThe staff are ok and the location is really handy for town. The rooms are just, being polite about it, tired. The carpets are threadbare, the TV is square and so you can't see the side of the screen and the remote doesn't work.....no plugs next the to best to allow charging of phones and its all just a bit work out ad need of a hug.Anonymous 01 November 2014
3.0 star ratingThe location is fantastic, and the rooms are clean. The hotel was lacking in some basics - I got one teabag, there was just one pillow, and the hotel generally is badly in need of some renovation. The rooms are clean however. I'd say it is worth spending the extra for a window so it doesn't feel so much like a cell. Anonymous 20 October 2014
4.5 star ratingAsked for a nice note to be left for my partner and they did this for me and did it on the computer with a nice pic nice little touch nikki20 April 2015
3.0 star ratingGrand old architecture, polite staff, good location. 'Turret' room. Tired decor, like an old couple's nineteen- fifties house. Poorly maintained (loose sink tap, inconsistent hot water delivery in shower) and threadbare carpet. Thin walls (noise from neighbours). No wall window, skylight with thin curtains (too much daylight). Busmanj17 May 2015

3.0 star ratingNot manyWalking around the hotel floor was a very strong smell of smoke. Our room had a very strong smell of smoke. When leaving the room and coming back in or from the bathroom, the strong smell of stale smoke really hit you. There were constant noise and sounds of work happening all night long. Wouldn't stay here againY31 December 2016
