The first hotel in Santa Barbara still carries the torch today, but a lot has changed for the motel chain that pioneered the first real economy motel designed for the no-frills traveller. 4.0 star ratingI was so pleasantly surprised by the room and the surrounding grounds' cleanliness. The window could be opened, they even had a guard on it so one can open it 12cm (or so) so that it can stay open all day while you are gone. The guests ranged from nice families to Euro-tourists: no scary drugged/drunken, leering men. Very pleasantly surprised. Ofcourse, you do get a very basic room (no fridge, coffe maker) but for the price and peace-of-mind, it's very worth it. Kudos to the management!Noisy heat/AC unit.15 March 2013
