4.0 star ratingStaff welcoming and helpful.A bug bare for me was no plug sockets near bed to charge phone or laptop and use them whilst on bed. Bathroom floor looks great in slate but very very slippery when wet, pretty but not practical. If I had children I would have been concerned. Basin plug was permanently closed even when pressing plunger to release it, I fixed it myself by adjusting screw at end. Bath plug the same but no release plunger present at all, I had to use credit card edge to release plug from hole. Light in hallway not working was completely dark at night time used my key ring torch. Room 21 was ground floor almost opposite main entrance, no smoking inside building so all smokers used pathway outside entrance opposite my room, as a non smoker it was the worst part of my stay it stunk the room out. For a 4* hotel I've stayed in better 2* to be honest.Monobrow22 November 2013
4.5 star ratingGood value, ideal location, useful central parking, well-equipped roomDecor a bit faded, 'uninviting' lounge areasAnonymous 03 February 2014
3.5 star ratingAll the staff were excellent - welcoming, alert, enthusiastic and helpful. We stayed two nights enjoying the Valentine's menu on the first evening. Parking on site was useful, and the location was excellent just below the bargate to explore the historic part as well as an easy walk to all the shops. A bus stop is just outside and a free bus links dock and railway station, going past the art gallery and seacity museum. With more investment in the interior design and upkeep this could easily be the 4* hotel it claims to be. As it is, in a standard room, the tiles in the bathroom and the woodwork around the windows are showing mould, and the corridors all show chips, scuffs and marks in the relentless mushroom grey paint which may nod to history but makes the public areas of the hotel seem rather dingey. However, the walls display a nice arrray of photos of Southampton, and the Jane Austen suite where she celebrated her 18th birthday, now bookable for conference or wedding reception is attractively papered in pale blue regency stripe.Anonymous 18 February 2014
5.0 star ratingExcellent as usual and good to find they have a consistently excellent standard. Jessica and Goshi give you a good welcome and a credit to the hotel. Nothing is too much trouble to them.NoneAnonymous 22 February 2014

3.0 star ratinggreat location for the centre of southampton football club and docks. The breakfast was very good quality with plenty of choice The hotel has been in my mind a very nice hotel at one time but is now showing its age and needs some money spent on it ,room was really small for a double room (more a single room size) NEVER A 4 STAR HOTEL chris01 April 2014
4.0 star ratingCentral to town, shops and restaurants. Breakfast very good.Luke warm water to bathroom throughout are stay, ( But where offered another room, but to much upheaval ). Vegetarian dishes in restaurant was poor and went out to eat. Quests in hotel should be told that no television can be used after 11.00pm, due to our stay people still had there telly on after 1.20am. So basically had no sleep for two day,s.Mr & Mrs R Wren.28 November 2014
5.0 star ratingThe hotel is located right in the centre of Southampton and perfect for a pre or post cruise stay, The hotel has a car park located at the rear the daily charge is £5.00 which is extremely reasonable. I can only comment on the room I was allocated which was the Oriana Room which is in the new build part of the hotel in the courtyard. Fantastic facilities, very clean and well presented. The breakfast is served in the main hotel and plenty of choice from the buffett, full English, fruits, cereals, cheeses, pastries. You can also select eggs bendedict, kippers etc from the menu. I found the staff on reception and in the restaurant very polite and professional. I would definitely visit the hotel again when I next visit Southampton. None Heather 19 March 2015
5.0 star ratingMy daughter and I travelled with her 6 week old son. The staff were extremely helpful, going out of their way to help us with doors etc as we were trying to transport pram, Moses basket and cases. Will definitely stay again. None. Anonymous 18 February 2016
3.5 star ratingStaff were very friendly and helpful, the food was also of good quality and came with good service in the restaurant for dinner. It's in a great location as well so was very easy to walk into the city centre. The room and bathroom was very clean and had all the usual facilities you'd expect like a hair drier, iron etc. Didn't use any extended facilities offered like Wi-Fi so can't comment on those. The big problem was finding the parking which is hidden away around a few one-way streets and is pretty easy to miss. Also the first room we were checked into had a distinct smell of cigarette smoke, although the staff were happy to move us on to another room which was much better. I thought the room itself was a little underwhelming and slightly tired. The mattress had very much lost its spring and the bed itself wasn't overly comfortable. Likewise the room was just generally sparse and somewhere you'd really want to spend significant time in. We paid around £80 for a Friday night stay to see a show at the Theatre and it did the job of providing somewhere to rest our heads in walking distance but did lag behind the freshness/newness you get even in chain hotels.Dan29 February 2016
