3.0 star ratingWe enjoyed our stay at Green Village for a few reasons; 1.The pool, and general layout were good. The chalets faced towards the pool, which made it easy to be sociable, whilst the porch area was good for reading, and escaping the sun. The feeling of the environment was in keeping with a tropical island which was nice, and not easy to get at the price you pay. 2.Maria, who worked at reception, was very friendly, and a much needed happy face around the small complex. 3.Budda Bar and Sham. Sham, who worked behind the bar, was very friendly and went out of his way to give us advice about where to go, where to eat, and also recommended cheap taxis etc. We enjoyed our evenings at the bar where you can play pool, chat to others, or just enjoy the company of Sham. He really made our time there special. 4.Location. We were in walking distance to a variety of different eateries, shops and the beach. I would highly recommend the roti place across the road (next to Fat Mamas, and linked to Green Village), where the people who run it were very friendly, and the food was both cheap and delicious. Likewise, the restaurant down the road (to the left), Mangga, also was authentic, cheap and tasty. There were nagatives too; 1.The majority of the staff were not particularly friendly, at times it could feel like they resented our presence (in the case of some of the male members of the team). 2.Rooms were o.k for the price but it would not have taken much to make them nicer. For example, the TV didn't work (so why didn't they just remove it?), glasses were really dirty upon arrival, the top cover sheet on the bed did not smell clean, and there was no mirror - except for the bathroom which was also a wet room. Likewise, if we had the room cleaned, the bed would be made, and maybe the bathroom hosed down, but things like toilet roll wouldn't be topped up, and very little actual cleaning seemed to have happened. Minor things, but somewhat frustrating in that it doesn't take much to sort them out. 3. Breakfast. Although it was included, we opted to eat at the roti restaurant across the road (linked to green village) as breakfast in the hotel was very poor. On one day, there was some left over noodles and a spring roll for me and my husband to share (with people still coming in after us). Again, just a little more care (or perhaps, personal pride) in what was being offered to guests would have made all the difference. We felt that we got a good deal on price, but that the owners have missed a trick with what could be a real gem in amongst the concrete constructions cropping up all over Langkawi. If all the staff just took some pride in the hotel, and were willing to make an effort (at no extra cost), this place could be so much more. As it stands, the friendliness of Maria and Sham (and the folk across the road) really saved it for us, it's a shame that more of the others couldn't follow their example. Anonymous 21 October 2014
