3.5 star ratingOur room was on the -st floor of the Bauer Casa nova . It was in itself nice and spacious, but so dark we needed all the lights on even when the sun was shining .We arrived to the hotel in the evening, and were given a room on the 1st floor and there was no view in the Casa Nova building, we told of our concern about darkness but the receptionist appeased us by saying there were 4 windows. Well there could have been more windows it would have changed nothing to the fact this room was Dark and gloomy and gave on to a wall .Too dark 27 October 2013

4.5 star ratingFriendly, efficient and attentive staff throughout our stay. The Casa Nova is a cheaper accommodation building adjacent to the main hotel and not as luxurious as Il Palazzo but we found our room on the fourth floor to be well-decked and cosy, very quiet and restful. We were given free wifi by signing up for a membership which cost nothing. The Breakfast in the main hotel cannot be faulted - wonderful service, spectacular views of the lagoon and a comprehensive buffet. The hotel's location is superb: a two minute walk from St Marc's Sq and ten minutes from The Accademia. Because our room was on the top floor, we had skylights instead of windows so lacked a view - however we benefited from it being light and airy. Jonny Irons13 January 2015
4.0 star ratingPerfect location in the heart of Venice, amazing views from the restaurant on the Grand canal, and a free river shuttle to Bauer Palladio on Guidecca island for a quite escapeDrinks and dinner quite pricey, and some parts of the hotel looking a little jaded nowNigel23 June 2015
4.5 star ratingHotel is very impressive and staff are very professional and gave much help with directions around Venice. The room was very Venetian and comfortable. Although Casa Nova rooms are located separate from the building they are still very nice.Casa nova rooms are separate from the buildingMD15 December 2015
5.0 star ratingBreakfast on the patio and night cap in the roof top bar both have the best views of Venice and are not to be missed. We stayed in the apartment in Casa Nova which could easily sleep 6 and has a private patio with views of the Campanile. It seems undersold in the hotel marketing material. No coffee making facilities available in the room. Anonymous 17 July 2016
5.0 star ratingThe Bauers is a 5* hotel split between three brands on one site: Bauer II Pallazo The Bauer /l'hotel Bauer Casa Nova (The Bauer Palladio is on a separate island and is more SPA themed than convenient for sightseeing.) What's not immediately apparent is apart from The Bauer Palladio, its all one and the same. Essentially the hotel has rated the frontline rooms as the Bauer II Pallazo. These are more expensive rooms, different decor, with guaranteed views (I would hope) of the Grand Canal and its own boat launch at the very front in full view of the exquisite Bauer Terrazzo Restaurant. The Bauer has a separate launch on a small waterway on the side of the hotel, straight into the very impressive lobby and the same hotel breakfast in the beautifully situated front-line Terrazzo restaurant. We arrived this way and between the gondola stand, and the beautiful bridge linking Chanel to Versace and the like, it seemed equally impressive. Fab hotel. Would stay again. What's not advertised anywhere is the Bauer Casa Nova. Although we'd booked and checked in at The Bauer, and benefited from the Terrazzo breakfast overlooking the Grand Canal, we were escorted out the front doors of the hotel, down a small side street, through an unmarked door, down a narrow corridor, up a 2-person lift and up another set of stairs to the attic of what appeared to be a completely separate hotel. The receptionist described it as the Bauer's cousin hotel. "Wait a minute, we booked the Bauer," we thought, alarmed. The only thing that stopped us from lying on the floor, kicking our legs, spitting our dummies out and wailing over having been 'missold' our hotel, was that the room was actually quite beautiful, in a truly Venetian way. Sumptuous padded damask wallpaper from the sloped ceiling to the fabric piped tops of the skirting boards. Huge and comfortable bed, new-to-look-old marble topped antique looking furniture and a fully marble five-piece bathroom suite. It was completed with a tiny, weeny little balcony overlooking the rooftops of Venice. We debated for days whether being in a separate building to the Bauer diminished our stay in any way. Perhaps if there was a bridge connecting this building into the main hotel it wouldn't have felt so detached? Or a sign over the door signifying that we were at the Bauer and not just a side street inn. Or a man on the door? What it all boiled down to was that we should have been told at point of booking that we weren't in the Bauer main hotel building. That's it. We should have expected it. "You want to save a little bit of money, you can stay in our equally beautiful rooms across the alleyway." That would have been enough. I probably would have gone for that. But Casa Nova wasn't mentioned on Hotelopia's website. It should have been. Rooftop lounge At €35 for an orange juice and glass of wine we were unimpressed. Lack of atmosphere here (no music, few patrons) despite the spectacular views. Next time I'd have a photograph up here and have a drink in St Mark's Sq in one of the cafes that has a live orchestra and is buzzing with activity for the same price. A note to the manager: For a 5* hotel it needed a clock by the bed, bottles of water by the bed, a conditioner along with the shampoo in the shower, and an iron!! The 'press service' offered would have cost more than my entire wardrobe of clothes. A chocolate on our pillows with the turn down service would have been a bonus. It would also have been helpful if the maids had spoken English. Shouting "no, we're naked" didn't translate so well or buy us the time we needed to protect our modesty. Soon learnt to put the 'do not disturb' sign on the door knob for every wardrobe change.Lauren07 July 2016
