5.0 star ratingCould not find our booking but were very helpful in trying to look, offered us complementary drinks while waiting, and did not charge us for the parking. Rooms very nice, could do with more milk for the drinks, but Im sure if we asked for them they would have be provided. Bed very comfortable.Unfortunately, did not print out my confirmation email but made a note of the reservation number. The Hotel had never heard of Hotelopia and couldnt find my reservation, even after me logging into my own email account on the hotel computer and printing it out. We arrived there at 1pm, but had previously phoned the hotel to ask if we could arrive early and they said to try they may be ready or not. We then returned 1.30pm to see if they could find our booking but their computers were very slow. We decided to leave the bags in reception and went to watch the rugby and returned to the hotel at 7.15pm and had no problem booking in then. They did no charge us for the parking and were very apologetic about the confusion with the booking.02 April 2013

3.0 star ratingThe receptionist on arrival was very helpful. Unfortunately hotelopia had failed to advise the hotel of our booking, but thankfully a room was found by us and the receptionist was very professionalThere was a threadbare carpet in the room - not just a bit of wear, but so much so that walking around the room in socked feet was actually uncomfortable!! The shower offered but a mere dribble. The dining room manager at breakfast felt it necessary to inform us that despite my booking clearly stated BJules25 May 2013
4.5 star ratingThe hotel was absolutely beautiful and the bed was really comfortable. Really great location too.The hotel couldn't find our reservation on the system and were actually quite defensive about the issue making out like it was somehow my fault. In the end it was resolved but it took two visits to reception, quite a lot of time and my requests that our rooms (we were in four rooms in all) were close together and twins were completely forgotton. They also weren't apologetic at all which I found quite rude.11 June 2013
5.0 star ratingThe Bed was very comfortable and the shower was powerful. The room deco is a little dated and as it's a old hotel things creek and make odd noises. Anonymous 08 July 2014
3.5 star ratinggood staff, great breakfast and impressive lobby. central location and car park handy. rooms a little tired, limited parking and at £10 a day not cheap!Anonymous 18 August 2014
4.5 star ratingPerfect location in Cardiff city centre. Although the room was a bit "dated", it was spacious and clean, and the breakfast was excellent. The public rooms and foyer are very grand and spacious - Olde Worlde, if you like, and we do like! Exceptional value for money.Room needed updating.BillG09 January 2015
1.5 star ratingStaff Vikki sorted out our refund when no one else would give me an answer or return the 6 calls I've madeHotel closed because of airborne virus. Found out in news but no call from hotel despite calling numerous times. Sorted out alternative accomodation as I was working in Cardiff Sunday and husband was cycling velothon and roads were closed so needed to find out where we could stay.Anonymous 17 June 2015

4.0 star ratingThis hotel is in a great location. Opposite the Castle, 10 min walk from St Davids Centre or 5 min walk to all the other shops. There are many restaurants and bars close by too. The hotel staff on the desk are very friendly and welcoming and so are the bar staff. The rooms are very warm and the air conditioning does not work. Our window was tiny in comparison to the room size but as we were at the top of the hotel it is to be expected. Shower was great!! I have stayed before and I will again - in fact we have booked up for January 2016The room was looking very tired - some may say it adds to the charm of the hotel but all the common areas are very well kept. Our bathroom walls were in a state of disrepair, most floor tiles were broken - but considering you don't spend that much time in there I don't feel its important. Latkinson10 November 2015

3.5 star ratingGreat location, right by the castle. Lovely old building. Friendly staff. Decent breakfast buffetWould chose another room next time, quite noisy main road. Slightly dated, but clean and comfortable, right for the money paid. Bar doesn't take cash after 11pm!Anonymous 07 June 2016

2.0 star rating- great location - welcoming entrance- only provided one towel for two guest - mouldy bathroom ceiling - bathroom was not clean (thick dust) - the car park is extortionate at £13 a night - you can hear everything in the hallways. - some of the light fixtures didn't workAnonymous 20 September 2016

4.5 star ratingThe lady at the main desk, Elizabeth, was incredibly helpful. I was travelling alone and it was so nice to have such a friendly person to help me check in, and who also went above and beyond to ensure I had information for my journey the next day. She was brilliant. The lobby and staircase is absolutely gorgeous. It had such a luxurious feel to it and was beautiful. I loved all the mirrors everywhere. My room was lovely. Amazing television channel selection. The desk is manned 24/7 which is comforting to know. Breakfast staff were helpful and friendly and the cleaning staff wrote a welcome note in my room which was much appreciated. Beautiful bathroom. The curtains in my room were a bit tatty.Mair15 September 2016
4.5 star ratingRoom was very clean. No issues at all. The hotel is incredible value for money and also of course you can find nothing more central. I asked for a quiet room away from swing doors and linen rooms etc in the corridor. I did have this. However the room was noisy from the traffic outside. I would have expetec a roon in the 'inner' side of the corridor as the traffic nosie was worse than any swing coukd have produced. Huey09 December 2016
3.0 star ratingThe breakfast was plentifulAlthough plentiful the breakfast was cold. The in room tea/coffee facility was not stocked properly (no milk etc) and the mug to drink out of was still dirty with dregs in the bottom from the previous person. The walls were too thin and not at all sound insulated as i could here the people in the next room during normal conversation. Anonymous 09 February 2016
4.0 star ratingA very comftable room and close to all amenities the view of the castle from our bedroom window was a bonus .The bar area was not big enough only having a few tables and only the television in the corner for entertainment felt that you were only expected to stay for one drink very disappointed . Not inviting or comfortable.Anonymous 30 April 2016
3.0 star ratingBreakfast good quality though dining room was drafty and had to push to move table. Staff professional.badly in need of refurbishment. Bed far too hard and uncomfortable.Light pollution not just under room door but all round the door. Some furniture tired / damaged. Barrier mechanism at car park entrance difficult to access from car and unable to open car door when at barrier - beware. Anonymous 23 February 2016
