4.0 star ratingI enjoyed a really lovely holiday here and found loads of great things about the Royal monica Calimera Hotel.... 1) I was delighted with my sea-view room I paid extra for as it literally was maybe 20m from the sea and had a lovely view across to Fuerteventura also. I loved being abke to hear the sound of the waves all the time too and there were fantastically thick curtains so you wake up when you're ready and not with the sun! 2) I thought the food was excellent with a great choice at all meals. I love tasting different things so loved the idea of a buffet where you could try as much or as little of everything as you liked. They always had plenty of fresh fruit and salad options along with hot options and always some freshly grilled meat and fish. There's nearly always some food available at the Pool bar too outside of regular mealtimes. 3) Location is lovely for a chilled out holiday as it is a little bit outside the main Playa Blanca strip so the promenade isn't too busy and you really do feel like you're right on the sea-front. (Some of the other hotels I considered nearer town seemed to have a steady stream of traffic past on the promenade so had to have gates etc. which I thought would spoil it a little bit so I was happy with my choice) Fairly easy to get to main strip - 15 mins by bike which you can hire from hotel at €11 a day, 5 mins in a taxi for €5, 5-10 min walk to bus stop where there's a bus every 30 mins for €1.30 or a longer walk of course (My knees aren't up for long walks so I can't give estimates of time. The promenade outside the hotel is really lovely though as it goes the whole length of Playa Blanca along the sea-front and is well paved and wide enough for buggies, wheelchairs, bikes and pedestrians to all enjoy together. Only minor issue with location was that you had to travel a little bit to get a nice sandy swimming beach but there's nothing much the hotel can do about that! 4) Plenty of sun loungers by pool with great flexibility to move from shade to sun and back through the day and lovely having poolbar just there for drinks A few very minor things I'd have liked a little different... 1) The beds are on wheels so if you try to sit up in bed reading it can move forward a little so you can't really rest against the headboard. 2) The water in both pools was quite cool even though one seemed slightly heated - possibly nice on an incredibly hot day but with regular cool breeze I found I had to prepare myself to take first the cold shower before swimming then the cool water of the pool whereas normally I love jumping into pool on a sun holiday. 3) Possibly because it's a quietish time of year it seemed like not all the activities on the notice-boards such as aqua-fit or water-polo were on unfortunatelyTotally chilled22 April 2013
4.5 star ratingExcellent staff working at the hotel. Very nice and friendly. Funny activies every day.Only one little small thing and that was the bed. It was to hard for me. But I suppose that that depends from person to person. Pettrus14 July 2013
2.5 star rating- Nära till havet, bra utsikt. - Trevlig personal - bra tillgång till solstolarHotellet: - Poolområdet låg en liten bit ifrån huvudbyggnaderna vilket medförde att det kändes som en separat anläggning. - Poolen var kall. Kallare än i havet, som inte heller var jättevarmt. - Det är långt till närmaste sandstrand. - Hotellet är placerat på en blåsig del av ön, nedanför ett/en berg/vulkan som verkar medföra ännu mer vind. Det blåste mycket! - Alla andra hotellgäster var från Tyskland. Inget fel på tyskarna i sig, men det medförde att alla på hotellet såväl gäster som personal förutsatte att vi var tyskar och pratade tyska med oss. - Man var tvungen att erlägga en deposition på 20euro för fjärrkontroll till AC´n och en deposition på 10 euro för fjärrkontoll till TV´n. 15euro deposition för strandhandduk samt 0,5euro om man ville byta strandhandduk. Pinsamt dåligt! Rummen: - Dålig belysning - Hårda sängar - Inget kylskåp på rummet (!) - Jobbigt elektriskt ljud från skåp med dvärgströmbrytare. Jag drog alltid av huvudbrytaren på kvällen för att få tyst. - Vill man använda kassaskåpet i rummet så kostar det 18euro för en vecka en deposition på 5euro. - när vi anlände stod vårt rum öppet med dörren vidöppen.
