Hotel Information

One of Scotland's best-loved hotels The Royal Highland Hotel is situated right in the heart of Inverness. All the rooms boast furnishings and fittings of the highest quality with free (45 minutes) wireless internet access available in all public areas. The majestic staircase, which inspired the designers of the Titanic's interior, forms the focal point of the building. ASH is the a la carte restaurant/bar within the hotel, and the Gallery is a more traditional eatery, both offering fresh local produce. There are spa and health suite facilities nearby, or canoeing, tennis, hiking or fishing for the more active.

4.5 star ratingI'm very surprised that this fine old hotel has only 3 stars - with a little extra effort it could have 5. It has a very similar atmosphere to the famous Winter Palace Hotel in Luxor. On the slightly negative side, some of the staff, although satisfactory, are not overly efficient. Also, diluted orange juice was on offer at breakfast rather than the real thing. If minor problems like these could be solved I don't see why this hotel shouldn't have 5 stars. The hotel should draw more attention to the numerous royals and celebrities who have been its guests over the years. I'm certainly looking forward to my next visit! 13 September 2008

3.0 star ratingOur stay was very enjoyable, the purpose of our stay was to relax and we did that, We found the stay enjoyable and very peaceful. The staff were there if you required any assistance. this is our second stay and we will be back.Everyday we had to go o housekeeping as the room wasn't stacked correctly, Tea and coffee not replenished, everyday no milk left and no toilet paper in bathroom.30 November 2008
4.0 star ratinghas improved alot over the past few years, especially the breakfst.when we first stayed it was not so good, communial tea pot, cold plates, waiting for food to be restocked, much better this time round. Bigger selection and choice of foodsDid not like not being able to see out window ,had to wait till we came downstairs to see what kind of a day it was10 December 2008

4.0 star ratingNice large room. Plenty of hot water.Poor serevice at breakfast.11 October 2009
3.5 star ratingThe room was large enough and clean. Everything worked. Parking at the hotel is very limited - and I was directed to a multi-storey a 10 min walk away. This was obviously manageable - but with luggage and equipment to carry it was not welcome. Reception staff did not suggest they would store until my return - and were not entirely helpful when I requested that they do so. I was booked into one room initially - despite another resident who was at reception checking out when I was checking in advising the receptionist that the shower was not working - when I returned from parking the car the room had been changed.evies1301 November 2009

4.5 star ratinggreat position in center of town, staff helpful, two meals for £9.95 very good value and nice meals plenty of choice.room could be noisy near to kitchen entrance27 June 2011
1.5 star ratingVery unprofessional staff at reception. Needs to be trained in customer service. When I complained about the room being musty the receptionist gave me a key to another room. When I went to look at the room there was someone already occupying it. I took the key back and the receptionist managed to come off her telephone call just long enough to ask if I wanted another key. The meal in the restaurant was quite expensive for what is was - reheated chips. people were asking to move to other tables because of the draughts.04 September 2011
4.0 star ratingDespite there being a major problem when we arrived the staff were relatively calm and professional. The room was larger than I expected, and the 'period' decor matched what I expected the hotel to be like. There was an umbrella provided in the wardrobe, which I found to be a nice touch, although we never needed it.Not double glazed so a lot of noise from the nearby building site could be heard, but wasn't a major problem.SirDaz27 October 2011

5.0 star ratingFor the price this hotel ticked all the boxes. Is a lovely "old style" hotel in the centre of Inverness, right next to the train station. Beds comfy, plenty of towels in the bathroom, nice tea, coffee, biscuits on offer etc. Couldn't fault and will definately stay again. Njs15 November 2011

2.0 star ratingNone.I booked a family room with breakfast. I arrived late to find out that the hotel had booked me into the Mercue hotel as they had had "flood damage". At the Mercue was booked into dirty shoe box and had to pay for breakfast. On return to the Highland Hotel to complain, surprise, surprise. A room suddenly became available, but not the size booked. Refund for difference in room quality refused. Free drink given. Room hot and outside noise extreme. Breakfast covered in fat. In the morning, another hotel guest unlocked the room door and walked in! Frankly, one of the worst hotels in Scotland. Stay somewhere else.14 November 2012
5.0 star ratingHaving had a poor experience at the Royal Highland Hotel two weeks ago (I had to be checked into another hotel which was in a dreadful state, etc ...) the review I left on this site was poor. Having returned again to the hotel at the end of my Highland holiday I had a completely different experience. Good welcome at reception with information about the hotel given without asking. Clean, pleasant room with a very comfortable bed. One query raised with housekeeping which was very quickly resolved. So, credit where it is due for a good overnight stay making me believe that my initial experience was not the norm for this hotel. Also very handy for late night arrivals or early morning departures from the train station.26 November 2012

5.0 star ratingThe Royal Highland Hotel is in a really central location in the town the staff are all cheerfull and friendly the room we had been allocated was very small so asked at reception if we could possibly be changed to a larger one and this was no problem to them, we then spent a lovely three nights stay at the Royal Highland would recommend it anyone looking for a with a central location, excellent.
