The Lion hotel is located in one of the most beautiful and peaceful spots in the resort of Borovets, the first and most popular international mountain resort in Bulgaria, just a few minutes' walk away from the main ski-lift station; located at 2000 metres above sea level on the Northern slopes of Rila mountain. The town centre is around 1 km away and guests will find shops within 880 metres of the hotel. The city of Sofia is some 70 km away. This charming hotel comprises excellently fitted rooms and offers its guests a range of services and facilities, for both leisure and business travellers.

4.5 star ratingA warm welcoming hotel with good facilities - spa/swimming pool, buffet style restaurant (for HB) plus separate restaurant, table tennis, pool table. Rooms are a good size and typically relatively basic for the area - beds whilst low down, are sufficently comfortable...ours had a bath also (essential if skiing!) If you want to be away from the bustle of the town, then ideal....but it is then only a 15 min walk or 5 min taxi ride (10 Lev). Also a free shuttle bus to the gondola / town centre every 20 mins up until 18.00. Staff sufficiently helpful / friendly. Sound proofing seems good - there were some entertainment for visiting Bulgarians over the weekend and we were in a room over the reception area at the front (3rd floor) not too far from the Restaurant where the disco / singing was going on and it didn't really disturb us. For the money, we were very pleased and would definitely stay there again!As all the hotels in the area seem to suffer from, the food is not always the hottest but to be honest was absolutely fine for our needs...in the Lion it seemed to be better than most others to be fair. The rooms are looking a bit tired, with some of the facilities needing to have some money spent...but again, we did have a look at a couple of other hotels whilst there and the Lion was as good if not better. The Samakov and Rila hotels are in not as good a state. Nothing really negative to say about the Hotel - you just have to keep in mind that this is Bulgaria and a ski resort which has not changed much in the past 15 years...it has everything you need for half the cost of Austria, France etc!!!
