3.5 star ratingIn terms of Icelandic prices, the rates were very cheap! The staff were all helpful and friendly, contrary to some reviews posted. The "deluxe" room is actually more like a standard hotel room in other places, so try to book that. The salad bar was not bad and again good value for the price (around GBP 10 per person at the time of the trip). The reception were also happy to call nearby takeaway restaurants for free should alternative dining options be sought. The location is not bad: around 20-30 minutes' walk from the city centre and around the same in the opposite direction to the park and botanical garden. The "standard" room is supposed to fit up to two people, but they would have to be two small people with no luggage: the room was like a cabin in a ship (hence the hotel's name, presumably!?). The "deluxe" room is therefore recommended as a minimum, although having no more than 1 person in the "standard" room was satisfactory. Whilst the salad bar is good value, it is the same each day apart from the hot option (but that option is no good for vegetarians).16 March 2013
4.0 star ratingThis was a great budget option. We were really impressed with the quality of our room considering the very reasonable price. The level of assistance available to book tours, organise airports transfers etc was also above expectations.holsten24 March 2013
4.0 star ratingLocation of the hotel is very convenient. Bus stops right at the corner and is 2 stops to central Reykjavik, or walking its about 15 min. Breakfast was good (not spectacular but edible). We had a triple room that had a view of the mountains and water, very nice. Heavy duty curtains for nights when the sun doesn't actually set. Staff was friendly and helpful. There is a luggage storage available if you are checking in early or checking out before you actually need to leave. Paid internet. No ventilation in the bathroom so it gets a bit stuffy, and the windows only open so much. From what I noticed there is heating for the winter but we were there in summer and didn't need it. Didn't do the most spectacular job cleaning our room as all that was really done was a making of the bed. Otherwise, definitely worth the price we paid for it. Amanda03 July 2013
Staff were very helpful, in particular a lady with black hair with blue tips and wore glasses (sorry don't know her name). She was extremely helpful, and very knowledgeable, she gave us some great advice for our day of sightseeing in the city. The hotel is only a 20 minute walk in the centre of the city, with a fantastic view (if you're on the right side of the building) of the sea and the snowy mountains. For only just over £41 a night that we paid, it was fantastic value for money and would definitely stay there again. Room was very small and basic, however if like us you plan to be out and about all the time it doesn't matter at all. We had loads planned in the 5 days we were there so literally only used the room to sleep. wendykb04 January 2014
4.5 star ratingThis was our second visit to the hotel. We had superior rooms this time and they were very good - you get what you pay for, however last time we had a standard room and it was perfectly adequate. Very enjoyable visit and good service from staff.NoneAnonymous 24 November 2016
