Hotel Information

Located just off Sea Point's vibrant promenade and a short distance from the beach and the V&A Waterfront lies the landmark Ritz. Iconic and rich in history with magnificent views of the ocean and city, The Ritz has held it's prideful place for 45 years.Inspired by exclusive and design driven accessible luxury, our lobby area, reception and all public areas are being refashioned to unveil unparalled splendour. The 1st floor restaurant and pool deck area will be relaunched, a vibrant and inviting Cape Californian Cuisine influenced food and beverage experience. Our famed 22nd floor restaurant - Top of the Ritz, will re-open in time for season 2016. This experience will be crafted by well renowned Chef, Bertus Basson, within the ambiance of the incomparable revolving fine dining restaurant where breathtaking 360 degree views of the ocean, mountain and the Mother City will enchant our patrons. The Ritz Porte Cochiere facade is under redesign together with our previous 220 rooms which is currently undergoing an overhaul of the finest in hotel room design. The development of food and beverage experiences within The Ritz is by far our most exciting project venture. We are creating an exclusive nightclub on our basement level coupled with a multitude of development plans in the pipeline that will complement the Ritz Plaza from a retail perspective as well as the Ritz precinct as a whole. This incorporates the inclusion of a fitness centre under the SWITCH brand.

4.5 star ratingVery good professional tourist information at the hotel. Very helpfull staff. Nice pool area and bar. A very good restaurant at the top of the hotel. Pretty view over the sea. Cheap prices. Very recommendable. The hotel is a little worn. Noise from ventilator between 19 and 20 floor unfortunately destroy some of the pleasure staying in the best room (1902). 4.0 star ratingvery good location, nice breakfast, relaxing poolTomas16 January 2012
2.5 star ratingGood location, friendly reception and wi-fi worked fine. Our first room's bathroom was so smelly that we couldn't sit in the room on arrival. We went down to reception and she changed us to another room- which was much better and relatively quite from the noise coming from the wind. We stayed in this room 6 nights. Breakfast was over crowded and stopped going after 2nd morning. blexp04 October 2012
3.0 star ratingBreakfast was relatively good as something for all appetites. The pool area was nice. Wouldn't expect too much for the price Checked on on two occasions and both were a pain. The rooms were not amazingly clean. We found water bottles in one of them. The sheets often had stains on them as did the curtains. Signs of a little mould in the bathroom to. Staff not very talkative and overly friendly, they don't tend to engage in any conversation. Not as nice as shown in pictures. Wouldn't choose to stay again but that's more the location aspect06 January 2013

1.0 star ratingThe atmosphere is very unpleasant. Some of the lights in the room were not working. The bathroom is very uncomfortable. The airconditioner was very noisy. The hotel did not match the description that your website gave.Rabi21 January 2013
2.5 star ratingFriendly staff mostly Nice pool Room fairly clean except extractor in bathroomStaff can't tell you "the catering staff is smoking canabis on a certain floor" Smoking on non-smoking floors Carpets dirty and stained Extractor in room's bathroom, probably not cleaned for maybe a year Struggleed to get teaspoons and salt in buffet breakfast area (with sitting for breakfast) Seems to be a huge airflow problem in the whole hotel, place is stuffy Lobby toilet facilities totally disgusting and very smelly Jacques22 January 2013

1.5 star ratingThe only positive thing about the hotel is that the breakfast was not to bad!We arrived at the Ritz on February 1, 2013 at about 19h30, due to the Premier Classe train that arrived late at Cape Town Station, we were send to Room 412. On opening the door we realize the room isn’t cleaned with any bed etc in it. Back to Reception we went and after a while room 402 was allocated to us. Tired and hungry we walked into room 402! It felt like we got a slap in the face! 1. The bed had no night frill; the base that stood out underneath the duvet was a disgrace. The linen and pillowcases were stained and in need of being replaced. The pillows smelled of smoke! We went and bought new pillows for us! 2. No kettle or teaspoons, no waste bin and the cups stained! 3. Both bedside lights not working, one bedside lamp did not even have a globe in it! (We then realize that the bedside lamps trip because of ironing etc in next door rooms) 4. No TV control – and really the reception for DSTV is so bad, you can hardly say that DSTV is installed at the hotel 5. Chair broken 6. Bathroom: - ½ roll of single paper toilet roll for the 3 nights we stayed in this room – we supplied our own toilet paper! - A 5 cent coin in the corner of the bathroom floor, was never picked up or moved, although bathroom was “cleaned” every day - Mould on the silicone at the bath and basin, terrible - Stench from toilet 7. Although the room is suppose to be smoke free, you can smell the smoke and marijuana smoke coming from the neighboring rooms! 8. The rooms are also very noisy! 9. On the Friday evening we asked for ice at the bar and the barman was very rude! Eventually we got a glass of ice from him! In the 4 other hotels we stayed in during our holiday, we phoned reception and got an ice bucket with ice free of charge! But not at The Ritz! 10. On the Saturday morning we asked to be moved to another room, the reply “ there is no in hell we can move you anywhere” 11. Fortunately on Monday morning we found a receptionist that after complaining again moved us to Room 803! Then she told is that the first 4 floors are used for students from Nigeria. The “new” room we got was at least clean and not so smelly! 12. There was no concierge service at all! 13. The breakfast was not too bad, but every morning we had to ask for teaspoons, look for salt and pepper pots, the Restaurant waiters isn’t very friendly! 14. We planned on eating in the revolving restaurant, but couldn’t get ourselves around to go that route! 15. I never felt save in the hotel the 7 nights we stayed there! Will we be back…definitely not!!!! We work in the tourism industry ourselves since we run a lodge on the Botswana border. But what we experience here we never seen any where lieds25 February 2013
3.5 star ratingBeen staying at this hotel for a few years now, it has been steadily going downhill, the only reason for going back is the location and the friendly staff21 March 2013
2.5 star ratingVery good location - 2 blocks from sea front, local shops and eateries nearby. 5 mins drive, 25 mins walk to VOh dear ! Faulty Towers comes to mind, albeit without the humour ! On the surface things appear to have potential.....but then lots of things just don't 'land' : Ironing Board ordered at 5.30pm and eventually arrives 16 hours (and 3 phone calls) later Shower curtain is 8 inches too short i.e. there is a substantial gap between bottom of curtain and top of bath = bathroom ends up being a mini swimming pool ! "All the rooms have this problem Sir !" Communal lifts - a law unto themselves. E.g. always stop at 2nd floor regardless of whether any request to do so has been made Bed mattresses are worn out, sloping and uncomfortable Carpets in room are tired and not particularly good for walking barefoot on Frustratingly for a Brit, Sky News plays in perpetuity in the Foyer........but you cannot get this in your room ! 'Euronews' is available in-room.......which repeats a very narrow spectrum of news every 15 mins (which appears to be only updated twice a day !) A verbal altercation took place one morning between the omelette chef and what appeared to be a guest......which ended in a 'slap' !!! Don't even think about a 5 mins 'late check-out' on day of departure ! Shower tap constantly drips Air conditioning unit leaking and water from it dripping down room door......to the point where the door warped and the only to shut it was to kick it !23 March 2013
1.5 star ratingIf you Google the Ritz Hotel the page shows four stars, however the Ritz is only three stars. I booked a smoking room some seven weeks before arrival. On arrival I was allocated a no smoking room. I was told that there were no other rooms available. Then I was offered a room on the 14th floor, 1403. This room was undergoing renovation. There were tools in the room and the air conditioner was half stripped. This level of service is unacceptable. I should be entitled to receive the room that I booked. I will never book at the Ritz Cape Town ever again.18 March 2013
3.0 star ratingFor the money spent at Hotelopia offer was it ok.For the price that they are offering usually is it a disaster. The room was run down and you had the feeling that you'd be still in the 70's. The bathroom was really old looking and wasn't really clean.apotrc18 March 2013

1.5 star rating1.when we asked about the two single beds with a matress they were able to help change us to a room with a double.1.booked us in a room with 2 single beds. 2.hotel smelling of dagga 3.breakfast very bad 4.early hours of Sat morning we woke up because of a dagga smelling somewhere in the building people were smoking dagga and we phoned reception and they told us that those people were checking out. 5.Friday after checking in we asked one of the staff about the hotel smelling of cigarette all over before the dagga smell he told us that they had Nigerians earlier. 6.Our room was full of cockroaches we had to buy a disinfactact and ended up checking out a day before. 7.The hotel as you enter the reception it's smelling of cigarette which is one thing the hotel needs to deal with.06 April 2013

1.5 star ratingWe complained on the first of 3 nights staying at the hotel about the floor our room was on smelling like sewerage. They sent maintenance to come check and when we opened the door for him the sewerage smell was that bad it came into our room. We told him that the drain in the sink was blocked in case it might have something to do with the smell, he said it was fine and left. We didn't get a follow up call from staff and the whole 11th floor still smelled like sewerage all night.Unhappy15 October 2013
