The centre as well as countless shops and links to the public transport network are just a 5-minute drive away. A pleasant beach is a 30-minute drive from the hotel. Newcastle Airport is roughly 20 km from the hotel, whilst Durham Tees Valley Airport is approximately 64 km away.Built in 1744, this renovated country house hotel comprises a total of 100 rooms spread over 4 floors. Guests are invited into the lobby with its 24-hour reception desk, a currency exchange counter, lift access and hotel safe. Further facilities include a TV lounge, a hairdressing salon as well as a public Internet terminal (for which an additional fee payable locally applies). 4.5 star ratingFabulous setting and beautiful building. Rooms well appointed and very comfortable.Attended a wedding and found the buffet in the evening disappointing. Garlic bread very hard, given 1 piece, tiny spring rolls, given 2, tiny squares of plain pizza, given 2 and yorkshire puddings with bits of beef and gravy, which seemed to be left overs from main reception in afternoon. Staff rushed and just dropping food on to plate. Popsie28 May 2013

3.0 star ratingNice hotel groundsThe room was in a need of an update. There was torn wallpaper, chipped furniture, holes in the net curtains and the bathroom was dirty. Not a four star room. The drinks were expensive more than £10 for a pint of lager and a wine. I would not returnAmyHem30 July 2013
4.0 star ratingBeautiful settingOnly negative was the checking in process, attending a friends wedding and my husband and I had to leave the wedding breakfast to sort out the check in that resulted in us in our meal being cold on our return I have already complained regarding this issue - but extremely inefficient30 July 2013
