Hotel Information

Peebles Hydro is right in the heart of the Tweed Valley - the hotel is just 22 miles from Edinburgh and 50 miles from Glasgow. Somehow, the Scottish Borders magically shuts off the pressures of modern life, thanks to the glorious walks, world-class mountain biking, superb fishing - and the charming market town of Peebles itself.

2.5 star rating We booked a spa weekend which was absolutely not a spa experience however the facial treatment we received was really good. They are in the midst of renovating this hotel the parts they have done are gorgeous so would wait a couple of years before going. Breakfast was lovely catering for absolutely everyone, staff in the morning were really nice as well the whole breakfast experience was first class including the amazing newly decorated dinning room.Staff walked into our bedroom on two occasions without knocking then had a giggle in the corridor with their colleagues, the changing rooms to the leisure suite were dirty as was the steam room and the shower just outside it the glass sauna door jhad to be lifted to be opened but still scrapped across the rough tiled floor did not filled me with confidence that it would open again. Whist myself and my friend had the pool to ourselves with an overwhelming 3 members of staff observing us at all times (intimating) a member of staff decided to jump in the pool fully clothed with no apparent reason but to have a laugh. needless to say we didn't stay long. Receptionist told us the cocktail bar was to the right however after entering and sitting down the waiter told us when we went to order a cocktail that the cocktails were closed but were could have had any other drink, strange . The receptionist also told us there was a live band on so we went in to town for dinner then headed back to hotel only to be told by a different receptionist there was no live band on as there was a conference on, wasted night. This was booked as a spa weekend as advertised on the website. it was no spa! there was no dressing gown or slippers you had to go to the leisure area for the pool, sauna and steam room put your clothes back on and walk to the other side of the hotel for your spa treatment, there was no relaxation area etc I could have booked a facial at my local beautician and had a better experience and paid less. However alarm bells should have rang when I couldn't find any photos on website for the spa only the pool. They should be done for false advertising!! Shame on you Hydro.Anonymous 08 September 2015
2.5 star ratingfound the staff very friendly and wanted to help,( but grossly undertrained). Great gym and pool. Beautiful building.when you pick up on a deal you should be informed that your room could possibly be the size of a shoebox with the shower running cold water only which was the case for me,they moved us to another room after I refused the offer of showering in another room then returning to the shoe box.We found in our new room that when you run the cold water in the wash hand basin there was some rather undescribable stuff (black and gungy) coming out the tap. The dinner menu was uninspiring and not cooked well,I had to complain about a Ribeye steak (too dry) now who can't cook a steak, the rest of the stuff was very ordinary, on both nights we had to accept third choice bottle of red wine. Maybe we were just unlucky but too much going wrong, do the math.elvis19 November 2015
3.5 star ratingThis hotel is part way through a major overhaul and this was evident with works ongoing around the site. Despite this the pool and gym where very good and the location/views are stunning. The only real criticism I would raise is regarding the service we received during dinner, a couple of the "younger" staff were extremely uninterested displaying very little enthusiasm or professionalism. 4.0 star ratingHotel was clean, staff were very helpful and the food was good. The room was beautiful. It was very big and very comfortable. The views were spectacular and the facilities were excellent. The pool side staff and restaurant staff could not have been more helpful. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the hydro. 3.5 star ratingWe had a really lovely overnight stay. The pool and gym staff were friendly and the breakfast staff were efficient. The food at breakfast was lovely, despite being a buffet it was freshly made and there was a good selection. The bed was really comfy, despite the room being fairly run down. The corridors were really grubby and the carpets needed a good hoover. The reception staff were fairly frosty at both check in and out, and they tried to make us pay a second time despite paying when I booked. I had to show proof of payment before they believe me. 1.5 star ratingShocked by the state of the hotel. At the time of booking we were never informed about any upgrades being made to the hotel. We only found this out on arrival via a letter in our room. Initially we were given the wrong room which was quickly sorted by staff. The room was disgusting. Bugs crawling around the carpet, walls and ceiling. There was a terrible smell too. In addition the room and bathroom were extremely dated. We stayed here the night after our wedding and had planned to book a second stay along with both sets of parents. Not a great way to start our life as a married couple but we are so glad we never had the embarrassment of taking our parents to it. We will not be back!Anonymous 04 June 2016
