4.0 star ratingThe room are rather big as well as the bed which is extremely comfortable along with the pillows (it's important to me). The room is clean. The Hotel is overall nice. The pool was dirty. Maybe this is why nobody used it. It is far away from the center but the Hotel provides the free shuttle bus several times a day to the city center as well as picking back to the hotel at certain time. Loulou05 February 2012

4.0 star ratingGreat view, large pool.Position in the diplomatic part of town was not great for tourists although peaceful and hustler-free. Sound insulation from other rooms and corridor not as good as others. Awful shower curtain in over bath shower. Bed was uncomfortable.Fred31 December 2012
5.0 star ratingMade the booking with a Sea View and Servicio Royal and it was the best choice for a couple of bucks more when I made the bookings through Holepia. Worth every penny. I had free wifi 24 hours, late check out until 6 pm with no additional charges, and separate check in counters with breakfast on the 9th(last floor). Clean facilities. The pool side was superb, the staff were super friendly and helping. Can't complain. I arrived 2 days before my friends did...to take a rest and relax before starting the heavy sightseeing. Food was ok... but I wasnt expecting much anyway. Cuba is not famous for its food and this is a resort hotel. Lila20 February 2013

3.5 star ratingThis hotel is pretty good, and probably very good by Cuban standards from what I've heard. I found the staff polite and helpful. The shuttle bus into the old town is very prompt and efficient, running four or five times a day. The internet is a bit frustrating, but mostly usable if you just want to check a few emails or something like that. (That's about as good as it gets in Cuba from what I've heard. It's 5pesos/half hour (about $5/hr)). I guess you should expect a few minor grumbles when travelling in Cuba, and mine were pretty minor, but here they are: (i) Check in is not at 12 midday as stated on the site - it is at 3.30pm (ii) Rooms aren't allocated according to what you booked, but what is available when you check in. If you booked a room view, or a room in 'the levels' (aka 'servicio royale'), then make sure you get it. (iii) I paid extra for a room in 'the levels' or with servicio royale, paying about 30% extra for this. However, most of the additional services listed on the melia site didn't happen. This didn't bother me too much, as I was mainly only interested in the free wifi, but is a bit annoying. (iv) The gym isn't very good. There are no locks for the lockers, only two running machines which are mostly occupied, and only a few light dumbells. 17 December 2013
5.0 star ratingAlthough there was a delay with check in, they more than made up for it by upgrading my room to a fabulous ocean view without me even requesting any form of compenstion. Very apologetic and very professional throughout. The breakfast buffet was fabulous, lots to choose from and I had one of the best meals I'd had during my two weeks in Cuba in the gourmet restaurant. I found everyone very friendly and it was endearing to see how the hotel staff interacted with each other, a great testament to the Cuban people. The pool is amazing and even though the hotel was busy there were always sunbeds to be found. The lifts but this wasn't specific to this hotel and something I had expected. A little patience is necessary but no big deal. It's a little far out but after a cycle tour of Vinales I was glad for the getaway. I would definitely stay here again.02 January 2014

2.0 star ratingI have stayed in many of the good hotels in Havana over the years and this is my least favourite. Terrible value for money compared to the other 5* hotels in the city. The only time I have come across rude nasty staff. Food just terrible and a real lack of warmth and welcome. Would NEVER go back. Havana Libre hotel is so much nicer for example. VERY VERY POOR.jill22 July 2014
