3.0 star ratingMy room was awful. The window was hanging off when I arrived and it took me 10 minutes to fix it. It had been screwed in but was not very secure at all. No security safe available. No of turning on the heating. Mould in the bathroom and the towels were just about big enough for a 6 year old. No shampoo either. I would have complained at the time but we were only there for a very short time - thankfully. Would consider coming to Edinburgjh for Festival and Golf Holiday combined with a group but I don't think we'd go to this hotelwith the prices charged !26 August 2008
4.5 star ratingAn efficient chain hotel with professional staff and good food. For those without their own transport, the hotel's location outside the city centre is not a problem thanks to Edinburgh's excellent bus services. There's a pleasant nature reserve immediately facing the hotel on Corstorphine Hill. Can be slightly noisy at night at weekends.13 September 2008
5.0 star ratingwas very pleasently surprised by the hotel and thought it offered excellent value for money08 September 2008
2.0 star ratingThe room was below the standard I expected, having stayed at other 3* hotels which had better quality of everything of the above. There was no heating in the room and an electrc heater was provided, the television did not display all the chanels and additonal bedding not available in the room. The bathroom was like the one that are available in 2* and below accomodation. On the whole very disappointed with the accomodation.06 October 2008
4.5 star ratingstaff excellant, child friendly hotel, very relaxed atmosphere, definately would go back09 October 2008
4.0 star ratingThe facilities were good, Sauna, swimming pool etcThe food and drink was over priced01 October 2008
4.5 star ratingWe were delighted with our rooms at the hotel. Although we had booked as two singles we had large well fitted rooms with glorious views. Staff were extremely helpful on reception area. Buses were very good and close by for getting to the centre of Edinburgh and to Leith. The day Rover ticket for £2.50 was exceptionally good value.Friends who had booked directly with the hotel were given small rooms that were dark and they were not satisfied with them. Dining room seemed understaffed and we often had to wait. Breakfast was not that good - very cheap sliced bread for toast. Cooked food on buffet was often only luke warm. Bar area was not that inviting to spend the evening there! Hotel was not in a good postion for the Royal Highland Centre - the main reqason for our visit to Edinburgh was to attend the NAFAS Flower Competitions at the Royal HIhgland Centre. It cost us a lot on taxi fares to get too and fro.27 October 2008
4.0 star ratingThe location of the hotel is extremely good. On a hill overlooking the outskirts of the city.By bus, which is highly recommended, to downtown its only about 15 minutes and therefore no parking nor traffic problems. Bus-stop just around the corner of the hotel. Sufficient parking at the hotel. The entrance is good and looks very modern, though the rooms are unfortunately old, very sqeaky and very soft beds. It was impossible to sleep at night, because once in bed, everytime sometime walked down the hall, which was right behind our bed, we praticallly fell out of bed. Or when someone ran down the stairs one fell out of bed. And this went on all night. From the people who went to bed late to those who had early checkout. But the breakfast was good and so was the coffee, as well as the ladies who waited in the breakfast room, which was very bright due to the panorama windows. Maybe just the location of the room was awfull but one cannot change the wooden old floors in the old building. Also the windows eventhough closed were drafty so we simply placed a pillow and towels around it. 27 October 2008
3.0 star ratingFood was excellent quality and value for money Room comfortable Room contained a double bed but would have been too small for two people Bathroom required updating - bath surround was not good27 October 2008
3.5 star ratingClean room and excellent BreakfastNoisy room, both late evening and early morning. Quantity of food (Evening meal) and quality not justifed in the price.30 October 2008
3.0 star ratingGood size family room, swimming pool and self service breakfast was good whenever staff could be bothered to check what items have ran out. Evening meal food in restaurant is just alright. Nothing special but they do charge big special prices. Not worth the price for the basic food you get. Trying to be an upmarket restuarant and only serving food slightly above a normal cafe.Staff in restaurant are hopeless. Right hand does not know what the left hand is doing. I know when we were staying that higher management would not allow extra staff for the restaurant manageress. But with a restaurant manageress and two waitress's should be more than sufficient if they wanted to work. They were so negative and lazy, never looked at you or came to you to see if everything was ok. Never cleared up messy tables. To buzy hiding in the kitchen or down the stairs from the restaurant hoping you will not complain. Sorry but you have a BIG training issue with your staff. Pay peanuts get monkeys. 04 November 2008
3.5 star ratingLarge room good traditional scottish breakfastFirst night we were placed in a small room - window needed fixing. However, for the rest of our stay, we were transferred to a lot larger room which was better. Rooms are old and drafty - windows need replacing - however, there were ample heaters in the room.07 November 2008

4.5 star ratingVery pleased with the room. Location was out of Edinburgh but buses very cheap and frequent so was not a problem. Would go back.03 December 2008

4.0 star ratingReally good place to stay, hotel reception fantastic impression, lots of facilities provided on site.rooms need updating a little as they look very warn and used (Wallpaper, flooring and fittings), single glazed windows with gaps letting cold in and the noise of the road.27 November 2008
4.5 star ratingNice WiFi always available in room and elsewhere. Much appreciated. Nice buffet breakfast. The bed was too small - not wide enough for two people and not long enough for taller people like myself. The bed was not comfortable. The mattress was too springy and the springs played havoc with body parts.06 December 2008
4.5 star ratingHigh standards of service and friendly staffbit "off the beaten track"18 December 2008
5.0 star ratingWonderful room and superb breakfast! Very reasonable price for everything included with swimming pool, gym and lovely room. We had a fantastic meal in the restaurant as well.18 December 2008
3.5 star ratingAfter a 3 hour drive I was extremely dissapointed to find I would be unable to be able to dine in the restaurant, meaning I had to go out to have dinner after a very long journey. 08 December 2008
5.0 star ratingVery clean, polite staff and the food was very good, added bonus of the spa facilities for those who want them.We had been at the theatre and got back to hotel around 11:30 and were advised the bar was closed so if we wanted a drink we had to go through to the function suite where a party to a party was going on, found this inconvenient having to push through a party in order to get an orange juice, I also thought hotel bars were opened all night!16 December 2008
4.5 star ratingStaff were very helpful when we booked in late in the evening and again when we left the hotel at 7.00am on a Sunday morning.Breakfast was only average.21 December 2008
3.5 star ratingthrough EZY Jet was a very reasonable deal , close to town but not downdown pricebathroom floor (room 47 ) on 3 dec was SOAKING wet. I had to dry it with the bath mat.07 January 2009
3.5 star ratingIt was fine and good value. Full of drunken but well-mannered locals just before Christmas. The breakfast buffet was good and the staff very friendly. Great view across to the Firth of Forth.24 December 2008
5.0 star ratingFantastic hotel. Lovely rooms and breakfast was amazing - would recomment to anyone. Not in the centre of Edinburgh but buses to Princes St frequent.06 February 2009

5.0 star ratingall staff were great, especially the reception staff. we were on a b&b basis, but ate in the Hotel on one of the nights, and couldn't fault any of the food served. We left our car at the Hotel and ventured into town on the bus, the kids thought this was great. We had a fantastic and relaxing break, the pool was an added bonus. kb; dunbartonshire14 May 2009
5.0 star ratingExcellent overall26 November 2009
3.0 star ratingThe room was small with mould on the window, which was single glazed and constantly wet inside with condensation. The central heating radiator was not on and the mattress on the bed gave no support. The bathroom is in need of a major upgrade as the shower water poured out past the curtain and the sealant round the bath is all split. The breakfast buffet was abundant but the food was of very poor quality.Kilter17 November 2009
4.5 star ratingOver all great hotel will go back as great valu for money. There losing out on there menus it doesnt encourage people to stay. Room was fab an spacious. Good and busy over the few days we were there good to see it. Bus service is great every 5mins from the hotel. will be back in summer time all going well.Bar food could be more varied and differt from dinner menu.More or less the same and in room service. arrived at 12 on a thursday still ha to wait till 2.30pm for room. To early of a check out at 11am did request a later check out at 12/12.30 couldnt get as leaving for airport at 1pm. I only mention it as I work in hotel myself29 November 2009
5.0 star ratingWe were pleasantly surprised and pleased with the standard and cleanliness of our room. we also were very impressed with the fact that the hotel was very busy but we were never troubled with noise. the locals even chatted with us in the bar. the breakfast was excellent, everything you could think of was on offer. While waiting at reception for a new key card (ours had stopped working while we ate breakfast) the girl behind the desk allowed queue jumping but not to our advantage and we were left to wait till she decided to serve us.NAT24 November 2009

4.5 star ratingAbsolutely georgous decor throughout. Inflexible We booked 4 rooms at the hotel via 2 providers and one couple were unable to make it owing to the snow and the hotel via travel republic declined to allow that couple to use it at a later stage. This is extremely unfortunate as they now have a booking for travel but no lodgings. 16 December 2010
5.0 star ratingvery clean, near to a bus root. room lovely. very comfy bed. pool nice and its free!little bit far from town but still there is a easy bus root01 March 2011

rooms were spacious and clean, food was fantastic, plenty to eat for breakfast hotel staff were helpful and polite10 November 2011
4.0 star ratingLike the in swimming pool, early bird food offers. General standard very good and will come again proabably.Children's portions of food too large and contain nothing green, though the jenga towere was ordered and enjoyed, the main courses are great but take a quarter of the placteful away and feel it with salad or swweet cord or something. It should not be necessary to order a side salad for a child to have a healthy meal03 November 2011

4.5 star ratingvery efficient welcome by receptionist room comfortable great bed place nice and clean nice foyer great breakfast evrything cooked fresh a real bonus picked up a dirty cup from the clean cup tray at breakfast corridors and staurs in need of a face lift outlook of room not so good /overlooking back28 February 2012
5.0 star ratingThe hotel was great value for money and although a little out of the main stream the buses were very frequent and reliable.Little noisey between rooms. We had like a herd of elephants above us too. Obviously families, but rooms were very quiet during the night until about 8 am.19 April 2012
4.5 star ratingReception staff very helpful. Room superb. Coffee lovely, especially as it was out of a machine! Lots of choice for breakfastWe were a little disappointed with the presentation of food when we went for dinner.brummie01 May 2012
4.5 star ratingVery clean, good-size rooms, with great facilitiesstaff pleasant enough and efficient, but slightly cold attitudes - maybe they could take time to chat with the customers rather than be hyper-efficient. Bar very expensive. A seating area outside would be very nice.04 June 2012
4.0 star ratingMycket trevlig personal och bra service. Bra frukost och bra mat i restaurangen.Lite långt från centrum men busshållplats nära och bussarna går ofta så inget större problem. Lyhört och knarrande golv, kan vara lite störande.Glen08 October 2012
3.5 star ratingHaving stayed several times at the Capital Hotel, when it was part of the Best Western chain, I was disappointed not to be able to use my Best Western Rewards card. A few little niggles spoiled my stay this time: there was no one available to change the bulb in my bedside lamp, on the Saturday morning of my stay there was no marmalade available and breakfast didn't start until 8 a.m. which made it tight to make my appointment in Edinburgh. The room was not as big as what I remember previously, possibly because I booked the room online through a third party. Basically, I expected more but didn't get it. I will need a reason to come back to the Capital whereas previously it would have been more automatic for me to choose it.Bill19 February 2013
4.0 star rating2nd time i have stayed here, April and May 2013, both times i have came away with nothing but praise for this hotel and its staff. Simply faultlessCtmarron0414 May 2013
5.0 star ratingExcellent facilities. Delicious food especially breakfast.Lower level felt muggy humid and the fan provided didn't really help13 June 2013
4.5 star ratingAll staff we encountered were polite and friendly. The room was large and modern. Wonderful views from the restaurant and a good selection for breakfast. Reception staff were very informative on arrival and made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. We were advised at check in that the lift was out of order and were offered an alternative too as ours was on the top floor. We didn't swap and the lift was fixed and promised on the following day (we arrived on a Sunday so I imagine there was no engineer available) Mixed positive and negative point: some of the corridor areas were in the process of being painted, so there was a bit of a smell of paint, however it was nice to see that modernisation is taking place throughout as the rooms, reception and bar area all look recently updated.
