5.0 star ratingEvery aspect of my stay was excellent. Staff were all very friendly and food was excellent. Some of the fittings are obvioulsy period, and could probably do with some restoration. But this did not detract from my stay. 15 March 2013
4.0 star ratingYoung lady on reception on our arrival was lovely and very helpful (no name tag so cannot indentify her). Brought ice to the room, explaned how to connect to the internet via Ipad etc etc. Had a meal in the Bistro which was excellent quality and very good value for money. Staff very good and reasonably price wine list The Tweed Room (used for breakfast and optionally for dinner) was very well appointed with lovely views. Would definitely stay again but maybe for more than one night to fully appreciate the facilities, grounds and general location Would definitley stay again but maybe for more than one night to fully appreciate the facilites, grounds and general location. The hotel was warm, which is a major consideration for us. Breakfast was not quite as good as the evening meal. I had the full cooked breakfast, fried eggs were undercooked which is a pet hate of mine. Haggis obviously had been in a warmer for some time as the outside was crusty (middle fine). Coffee was very good. Choice of breakfast though very good. Phil 04 July 2013
5.0 star ratingMy short visit was made pleasurable by the professionalism and and great personality of the staff. I was very surprised at the cleanliness and facilities. To me this hotel appear to one that insist on getting it right. John30 August 2013
3.5 star ratingThe bedroom was a generous size and the bathroom was excellent. The food at Monday dinner was poor and the staff nonattentive.TV in bedroom much too small for two people to view comfortably. The food and service on Tuesday was much better. The change of staff helped.Breakfast was sold as a Scottish Breakfast. What a disappointment. Portions hardly enough to sustain an adult until lunch.06 September 2013
3.0 star ratingStaff were all very friendly and helpful.Hotel desperately needs a refurbishment. Stained carpets, grubby seats. Bathroom floor had water damage with raised tiles and missing grout. Old small television in bedroom. It is a real shame because the setting is wonderful.10 September 2013
3.0 star ratingWhatever niggles I might have about the staff, the hotel always had a warm atmosphere. The setting, as just about anyone who has visited will testify, is beautiful. Dog friendly, which is unusual.Maybe we're just not that good at service in this country. I was once a waiter - I would never have stretched over one diner to serve another! My waiter approached the table, looked at my dish and asked 'Beef? Pork?' It was beef... If you were kind, you'd describe the décor as careworn. If you were harsh, you'd just describe it as worn. (Why do hotels - not just this one - not give a discount for a second night when they don't have to change the towels, supply fresh sheets or replace the soap and other toiletries?) I didn't pay full rate, but if I had, I would have felt well and truly done.12 September 2013
5.0 star ratingExcellent in every respect. One of the nicest hotels we have stayed at and for the ;price we paid (well below that indicated in their brochure) excellent value. Breakast menu and food brilliantEvening meal ala carte very good but we did think that £18 per a small glass of wine for £18 was excessive when the average price of a bottle of wine was only about £20 or £22. 20 September 2013
5.0 star ratingEvery single member of staff made us feel very welcome. Absolutely fantastic with our dog. Great walks from the grounds of the hotel. Superb food in the Abbey Bistro. Thank you for a brilliant stay. Can't think of anything... We will definitely be back.29 October 2013
