3.0 star ratingLarge beach when tide is out. When it's in, there are prettier beaches. This one can be accessed by visitors to Damai Central, a collection of small shops a cafes which is becoming increasingly popular with locals and is so close to the resort that you do not feel 'secluded' by any means. Recommend some of the nearby jungle treks, especially the ones you can do with a cheap day pass at Permai Rainforest Resort. The Sarawak Cultural Village is worth a visit too - short walk away. For a real slice of life in a (poor) Malay fishing village, spend a few late afternoon hours at Kampong Buntal, about 10ks away. The villagers are so friendly and great food s served at a large Chinese seafood restaurant there. Very basic surroundings, but good to watch the sunset with super food. Don't go if you do not like to stray outside your comfort zone and prefer to eat in hotels. Do go if you like local experiences.Stayed for last 2 nights of our fortnight's trip. Glad it wasn't any longer. Staying on Santubong Peninsula is a must, but if you will only be staying at one resort there, make it the Permai Rainforest Resort not this one or Damai Resort and Spa. The latter two are trading ln their names. The Damai Beach Resort is 3 star at best. They were doing some refurbishment work to one of the pools when we stayed and building in another area, which I have disregarded for this review because we knew about this work beforehand. That said, the facilities and front area of this resort are nothing spectacular. Stayed in a beach cabin which was dated, but large - very 1970s. Note that you do not get a detached chalet to yourself. There are 3 to 4 cabin rooms per detached chalet, which are basic. They do interconnect if you are a family group. Only 6-8 cabin rooms have uninterrupted views of the beach - if you can't get one of these, don't bother. You will simply be staring at other chalets. Better off with a hilltop room which would afford a sea view from a distance. Also note that some cabin rooms are larger than others. No. 313 is big, no. 314 is much smaller. Our bed was old and sagged a bit. Pillows were hard and uncomfortable. Air con was good. No real hot water. Buffet breakfast was just okay if you pick and choose. We had a poor quality meal in the hilltop restaurant. Hotel has too many 'don't do' notices and makes you feel uncomfortable. Don't know what sort of guests they attract, but you certainly feel as though they don't trust/respect you. There's even a notice at breakfast which threatens to charge you 10 RM for every 100 grams of food you don't eat! Staff were friendly and helpful, but lose marks because they must be aware of these issues. All in all, I wouldn't stay again or recommend you do. No problems with Hotelopia's service.09 September 2013

3.0 star ratingHyggelig og serviceinnstilte personale. God mat, grei pris. Lite ferdig, mye bråk i forbindelse med ombygging, som visstnok har holdt på lenge. Dårlig rengjøring av basseng, Møkkete på kantene. Lite muligheter for aktivitet i området rundt hotellet. Mangelfullt treningsrom uten aircondition, flere apparater virket ikke, og krus til vanndispenseren manglet. Svært lytt mellom rommene. Marianne16 August 2015
