Nestled in a 3-kilometre beach of the finest coral sand, surrounded by tropical palm trees and the warm Indian Ocean, the hotel is situated 5 km from Victoria, the capital of the Seychelles. Beau Vallon Bay is the most popular beach area on the main island of Mahé. The hotel is 15 km away from the international airport. It has 130 lift accessible guestrooms, the majority of which feature lovely sea views. Guests can discover the stars at the rooftop observatory founded in cooperation with the Laupheim Observatory or enjoy a tasty dinner at the on-site restaurant. A regular programme of entertainment includes local bands in a friendly and informal atmosphere. Motorised and non-motorised water sports are also available and table tennis facilities are provided for guests who prefer to stay dry.

3.0 star ratingThere is no denying the beauty of the Seychelles and in particular Beau Vallon in which the Coral Strand is located. We spent 13 days at the Coral Strand Hotel in a mountain view room - upon arrival we were warmly greeted with a refreshing drink and a cold towel and then duly checked in. We were then shown to our room which should have been a mountain view room however our room looked over a garage with an obstructed view of the sea - not really what we were hoping for for 2 weeks and upon consultation with reception were located at zero cost to a sea facing room. Our sea view room consisted of 2 rooms - bedroom and lounge with the latter converted into a bedroom for the kids - each room had a flatscreen tv with a range of channels with good reception. The hotel is 30 plus years old and the rooms show their age and are in need of a refurb - our door lock was faulty and the air conditioners were smelling musty and were dealt with via maintinence. On the first day I tipped our room maid and unfortunately, made no effect as the floor areas and under our bed was not cleaned for 2 weeks, so I saved myself some money. They do offer a turn down service which is nice and they do offer clean towels partway through the day. We decided to take the half board package due to the fact that we have kids and the choices are quite limited in the area - the buffet is themed every night and is well done, breakfast is also a buffet option. Lunchtime is also served in various areas within the hotel, the Ocean Deck being one where you can choose from Pizzas to Sandwiches and and a Sushi restaurant above the bar with views of the bay. The service at lunchtime was slow, labored and fractured, the speed of service was painfully slow, drinks came out 10 minutes after ordering and if you are a family, you expect all food items to be served together - not two sandwiches for the adults followed by a pizza 5 minutes later then a burger 10 minutes later. This was unacceptable, especially when children are hungry - our waitress, Maria (with attitude) explained that it is all produced in different areas. Sorry Maria, your problem - sort it out. To summarize, they did not care as all the checks has a service charge, so good bad or indifferent the service - they got paid, including Maria. So, in the end we gave up and ate in other restaurants along the bay, a shame really. Children's activities - Zero - there is a kids club at the Savoy and she was amazing - they ( Savoy ) have a nice pool which we would recommend - however I have no idea why they constructed such a pool area as they have a lovely beach 5 yards away. So, what about the Coral Strand? It looks tired and from what I could see the GM look lost too - he walked busily around and failed to talk to guests - I think he spends too much time in his office. The staff desperately need training - they have no idea of how to interact with guests. Arun was nice and so was the man with the hat at the deck area but Maria loose your attitude. The saving grace for this hotel is the food quality and the fact that it is on a lovely beach, however it's overpriced, needs renovating and your staff are disinterested. I would recommend the GM to be more creative and visible. I would not recommend this hotel. Anonymous 08 July 2017
